I am flying into Sydney and has connection flight to AKL (within 4 hrs). As I have purchased separate tickets for the two destinations, I need to be out and back in again for my AKL flight.

I understand that there is 50 cig allowance to get into Australia, but no such restriction to AKL. My question is am I allowed to bring more then 50 cig inside my check in bag (which really become redundant as I have to take it out and check them back in AFTER passing the custom)? Has anybody done this before?

Re: Sydney Custom question

I'm afraid concessions are concessions.

No chance you can transit through syd to akl?

Re: Sydney Custom question

Two separate tickets shouldn't matter too much, I've connected RGN - BKK - KUL with PG and MH on two different itineraries in the past, not sure how it worked but it did!

Re: Sydney Custom question

Thanks for replies bass_ke

Unfortunately I can not check them through, done this before in the past but not with ciggy problem as it was done before Australia cult down the allowance.

Ah well, might have to get one in the AKL airport I guess :(

Re: Sydney Custom question

serfty I will be flying in with EY and onward using VA, but since I refused to pay one ticket, they refuse to check me through, fair enough :)

editted to add: maybe the Bahrain check in annoying as well  :)

Re: Sydney Custom question

Well you can always try to get your luggage checked through (with a smile on your face) but, going by the lowest common denominator rule, looks like www.dutyfreestores.co.nz may be your friend. :-|

Takes a deep breath so as not to make comment about smokers but I like the Singapore model.

What Singapore model are you talking about ashleyn if I may know?

I was in Sin early this month. After never been to Sin for 15 yrs (last time I visit Sin was 1998), how disappointed I was to see how easy people to smoke around Sin now. I used to stay inside apartment to be able to smoke as I could not smoke in many places, but to my surprised I can smoke practically everywhere now (should I want to), I was actually sad :(

I'm sure the cost of ciggy's is outweighed by the fare saving ...

You are so right serfty.

Unfortunately EY web is hard to do the connection as all connection they offered is always the 7 o'clock SYD-AKL flight. I do not like to be rushed, and thus prefer to find a later flight. If I wanted the later flight I have to call, thus the extra fee  But yeah, next time has to look again closer and see if it worthed.

Singapore authorities do not have a duty free allowance for Cigarettes at all! Maybe in relation to the observations you posted.

oh God, lucky I was not busted :( I honestly never think that is the case when I entered the country earlier this month. Never again!

PS: But how come they have smoking lounge in their arrival then?

Re: Sydney Custom question

are you saying their citizens allowed to bring in Ciggies? This is at arrival terminal, so I assumed people just coming into countries using that terminal?

Re: Sydney Custom question

Don't know how you can afford to smoke now days. I purchased 200 ciggies at AKL duty free last week on arrival for my brother in law and was staggered to pay NZ$125. Needless to say I got my money back from him very quick.

There is no duty free allowance at Singapore for Tobacco products.

Many Singaporeans smoke, but they buy them there - paying the taxes/excise.

Which iirc is still cheaper than Australia.

And cheaper than what is sold on the streets in singapore. Thats why i try not to promulgate my arrival dates back into singapore less having inundated with ciggy requests

Re: Sydney Custom question

First let me apologize to serfty for posting my question in a wrong place, and thank you for your patient.

I live in Saudi Arabia where ciggy is only about AUD12 a cartoon :) All imported ciggies, from USA, UK, Germany, you named it. Not a good habit, but when you live where I do (what many refer it as the gold-cage) you will be thankful for a nice company of ciggies (assuming you enjoy cigarettes).

Living in a camp where there are not much women can do, many turned into gossip mongers, and I'd rather be friend with my ciggies and internet :)

I see, I guess they have a way to track which ciggy bought from where then.
