I am flying from NZ to London next month, but my trip is broken into 2 sectors. (My company has a strict LH policy when available)

CHC-SYD-BKK in F with Emirates (90 minute stopover in SYD)

BKK-FRA-LHR with Lufthansa in First to FRA then Business to LHR.

My questions are in regard to the SYD transit. I will be continuing on the same plane to BKK.

Is there a decent Lounge for Emirates in SYD?
Do you need to pass back through security to go to the lounge or return from it?
Can you just wait at the gate?
Do I need to remove all belongings from the plane?

I would appreciate your advice.

You will need to pass through transit security when you arrive in SYD. Conveniently the transit security in SYD pops you out airside right next to the EK lounge. You won't need to pass through security again going from the lounge to the aircraft.

Even if you are certain that it's the same aircraft to be used on your CHC-SYD and your SYD-BKK you'll still need to remove all your belongings from the plane. This is for 2 reasons, 1 there is no absolute guarantee that the same plane will operate both sectors, the second is that SYD will want to scan all your belonging at security.

You could in theory wait at the gate, but the EK lounge in SYD is pretty nice.

Don't forget that LAG rules will be in effect your whole trip.

You will actually have access to the QF F lounge at SYD if you wish.

Very true, however allow a good 10 minutes to walk from transit security to the FLounge and another 10 minutes to walk from the FLounge to the to the EK gates.

But worth it - and with added bonus of burning off some of the calories! And they will call the EK flight in the Qantas F lounge / show it on the board, so you won't be in danger there.
