So yesterday i went to pick family up from Sydney T3 airport.
Family go to get in when some kerbside management guy turns up and says we need to go somewhere else. Not only that but im going to get a fine notice now. We all need to go half a mile to some other pickup zone in the car park.

So apparently 2 years ago Sydney Airport changed the Domestic pickup zone. I picked up where i normally do which apparently is now a no standing bus pick up zone. In that 2 years this is my first encounter with Kerbside management.

Firstly, is the guy just scare mongering me, has anyone been fined for picking up before?
Only the government can issue fines. Sydney Airport is private so cant??
Secondly this seem like pure revenue raising. Its interesting that when BNE domestic tried this it got reversed after like a week or so and the pickup/drop off zone was reinstated. Kerbside MGT just move everyone along who i waiting around. Sydney just accepted the same with no fuss.

Anyway rant over. Given this apparently has been in place for 2 years if there is another thread about it please let me know.
Also if anyone has any secrets to picking up at SYD Domestic without the half a mile hike im keen for them. Go to the departure level and pick up from there??

I agree with your rant. The curb side pick up worked well and with sociopaths in charge of traffic management they fixed that.

I'm sure you could get a fine, but when I did it 3 months back at the same location I didn't get anything.

If he didn't give you any paperwork, I think the chances are lessened, but if there was a photo taken, it might yet be in the post.

Hmmm .. is the SYD access road public, or private? If private, I'm sure the Airport could 'arrange' for its traffic management people to be 'authorised' by the local council to issue traffic infringement notices - the council would probably get its cut.

Never underestimate the determination of an Airport owner in respect of revenue raising.

Unless the fine is outsourced to govt (ie, someone that can legally access your vehicle id/ownership details), how does a private entity get your details?

I thought shopping centres threaten you with fines but they can't enforce. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Our office complex recently outsourced our public parking to locals council because they can have access to addresses to enforce fines via state debt recovery.

Side question. What if your pax has mobility issues and can't walk far/from new drop zone? My driver charges us $ for the drop/pick up zone access, only a couple of dollars.

Yeh that was part of the issue. My mum is old and cant walk well. She doesn't have a mobility sticker because she walk

Here in Tas at least some shopping centre car parks are under the control of local Councils and any 1 hour etc limits are enforced by Council inspectors. The signage in these places are the same as Council signage, so you can tell if they are serious :)

I guess from a Council point of view its a nice compact area to enforce, with greater than average revenue/sq m metrics!

Next time she's at the doctor, get the paperwork for her to apply for a permit.

Just because she can walk doesn't mean she can walk long distances ect. It's a benefit she should have for these situations, you're not abusing the benefit.

The laws regarding access to personal details from licence plates vary from state from state. VicRoads, for example, will not give your details to a private entity such as a car park operator. So when my wife overstayed at a private carpark in Braddon whilst in her VIC-registered car, she simply ignored the fine and has not heard anything since.

The biggest mistake people make apparently is writing to the issuer of the fine to protest or whatever, which effectively gives them an admission and the contact details. That's what I did in a Brisbane car park years ago, stupidly, as my car was also VIC-registered at the time. There's tonnes of info on who can issue what etc on the internet.

I'd have thought that the airport has the legal authority to issue fines and, from my recollection from the time I looked into it, the RMS will be compelled to cough up your details.

My car has been fined for picking up at Drop off zone. Came in the mail. Somehow I think they share the details as the car which was fined had VIC plates.

I think ONLY Victoria has privacy laws that are enforcable, and information released for one purpose may not be stored and reused/shared.
Ask them where they retrieved your personal particulars, and expect them to bullshit that does not matter.
You may have rights if you are a Victorian. I seem to recall an NSW debt collector case that failed that way.

I'm gonna guess in this case the airport operator is considered a government agency not a private entity like a car park operator, so VicRoads provided the details.

Who sends the fine? Federal police?

A number of months ago I asked my brother to pick us up from SYD T3 departures as I had my infant daughter with me and it's a long walk to Express pickup with stroller and bags. Haven't see a fine yet.
