Hi AFFers,

I’m relocating to Frankfurt in early May for a year for work. Company policy allows me to fly Business (have only flown business once so far – AMS to SYD in MH in 2013). My wife and my young daughter will also join me on this flight.

Wondering if you could advise me on best flight option I could take in Business on either 5/5 or 6/5 (have to fly on these dates) factoring in below:

* Schedule - allowing me to 'enjoy' J
* Type of Aircraft & both hard + soft products.
* Pre-flight services – lounge in Sydney + Airport Trf

TIA

How many stops or any preference of stop over destination.
For me I’d probably chose EK if price wasn’t an issue. Best inflight bar and IFE and choosing the 0600 departure would allow you to fly both legs during daylight if you wanted to enjoy more of the flight.
Plenty of other good options on other airlines too though having said that. I also rate WY very highly aswell and probably thought they were better than EK but requires a 2 stop flight

Yeah - EK is probably a good choice. Cars to pick you up and drop you off. Good lounges. Good seats. Bit of bling on board.

For me, the aircraft flying would have a huge bearing on choice, assuming cost is no object. EK 777's are to be avoided in business class, because of the poor hard product.

Perhaps Singapore Airlines or Qatar Airways on the A380, both excellent airlines, and only one stop, with nice lounges

But it really depends on what your criteria are.

Agree re the EK 777’s.
Can take EK A380 all the way though which would be my pick

Anybody but EK.... World's most overrated airline.

EY/SQ/QR/CX would all be far superior.

Overrated, yes, absolutely. Easiest decision as cars included at both ends and minimal connections in a pretty friendly airport with young one in tow? Also yes, imo (particularly if A380 on both flights - granted if 777 maybe I'd consider other)

Qatar. End of discussion. Best business class food in the sky! True a-la-carte dining. And great hard product.

Thanks AFFers for very valuable views.

Workplace TA has advised below -
Option 1 :
MH to KUL on 5/5 - Ok to take either afternoon/night flight.
And then to MCT and connecting to FRA on WY.
Would be keen to understand your thoughts to WY (Oman Air)?
Option 2:
VN va Hanoi/Saigon ex SYD

Would you rate one over the other? Any tips to maximise 'the J experience' on these specific routes?

Keen to hear views...

Oman Air is pretty good. excellent seats, second only to QSuites on Qatar. Food and service also good. The new MCT airport will make the transit much more enjoyable.

Downside for me is the connection on MH who are on my no fly list (and it really needs to be extreme to be on my no fly list).

WY was offering a connection using Garuda through Jakarta I think. That would be preferable if the flight times matched up.

Vietnam airlines, the bed is good. But the rest of the experience is average. More like premium economy with a full flat bed.

Agree about Oman. I’ve never experienced F class but Oman J is one of the best flights I’ve been on. Oman do also connect with EY but requires an extra stop and a short hop from AUH-MCT. The EY lounges more than make up for the inconvenience of that extra short hop though :)

Thanks everyone for your views and opinions.

Tickets are now booked - flying on 5th May on EY at 20:55 pm to AUH and then 4 days of stopover in AUH before continuing my journey via MCT and FRA on WY on 10/5.

Anyone tips on seats (which ones to pick - we are 2 A + 1 C), lounge usage etc?

For Oman Air the window suites are ultra long - more than 7 foot of bed length (may actually be even longer). But they are slightly off-set against the aisle seat beside. The only seats that are perfectly aligned are the two in the middle, but they are slightly shorter.

That's assuming a 788 or 789. If they are flying the A330 (which I think are mainly to Asia), the configuration is 1-2-1. That comes down to whether you like a window each or want to sit together in the middle.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
