Hi fellow AFFs,

Thinking about taking a trip from Syd - Per. The flight I'm thinking about taking has a stopover in MEL/ADL . My question is, will both flights earn SCs individually or will the flight be classified as one flight from SYD - PER regardless of the stopover?

Secondly, if i booked a fully flexible fare, could i break up the route and instead of connecting thru directly from Melb, could i get on another flight after spending a night in melb even though the initial booking had a direct.connection?

Thanks for the advice!

Both flights earn SC's provided they are separate flight numbers.

Im taking the Per-Syd-Mel flight for the May meetup. You will get the ff and sc for each leg.

That is certainly the case for Qantas flights. Generally there a little more to pay in "taxes", but it can be done.

If it was Virgin Australia, it will only happen if either they are separate bookings or SYD is booked as a stopover.

i.e.
BookedEarnFlexi CostSCs Earned
PER-xSYD-MELPER-MEL$29940
PER-oSYD-MEL
(one booking)
PER-SYD, SYD-MEL$50740, 20
Total 60
PER-SYD, SYD-MEL
(Two Bookings)
PER-SYD, SYD-MEL$299, $208
Total $507
40, 20
Total 60

Really? I was always under the impression that if its a separate flight number you get the ff and sc per segment with qf. However with va I believe its only from origin to destination.

Okay, great info but i am a bit confused now. The flights im taking are syd-mel-per but all under the one booking and cost around 4000 pts more on an ASA booking. I will.cut and paste the flight details when i get on my pc (on my mob) atm....from what i can see here though i should earn SCs for both flights as they are flagged 2 flight numbers and will require me to 'transit' onto a different aircraft in melb..

I think there is some confusion here, as a similar question was posed on the Velocity forum. The Qantas and Velocity programs implement different rules on this.

As this is the Qantas forum, they will be counted separately. That is SC will be awarded for each flown sector.

serfty's answer looks correct for Velocity.

OK guys, so these are the flights im planning on taking -- note that when i book the flight, it's booked as a direct connection (i.e. i search for SYD-PER) and choose a flight connecting thru Melb, instead of a direct flight.

Can someone confirm that I will get SC points for all 4 flights, i.e. for QF401, 485, 802 and 460? (i.e. 120 points each way = 240 points round trip)

Yes, that would be correct. 120 SC each way, if in earning classes (i.e. not a classic award)

Oops, sorry, you are correct in the case of Qantas.

I thought it was a DJ query (did not look at the forum) and answered a such.

A final qn for the regulars. If i book these flights, on the return lwg after arriving in melb, would i be able to get on another (later) flight feom mel-syd given this is a biz class

Booked a SYD-xMEL-PER-xMEL-SYD JASA for 72k points + $330 for Sat 5th May. Net points expended will be around 62k given around 10k clawback on the flight itself. Should also hit a loyalty bonus.

Expected result: 240 SC points (480 SC points with the double SC promo). Not the best deal one could get on a $/SC basis, but being ex. Syd, the options are a little more limited.

I also answered my own question above -- rang Qantas straight after booking and they happily changed the final leg flight from a 1900 hrs to 2000 hrs which gives me a couple of hours in Melb to visit some family near the airport.

Keen to have some AFF company on the flight if anyone in SYD needs a similar SC boost and wants to utilize the double SC promotion! ;)
