I have a flight from SYD-LAX in July and I was curious as to what the loading looks like according to Expert Flyer

I'm in J and besides myself, there are 2 other seats allocated in J, no seats allocated in PE and 11 seats allocated in Y. I know that seats allocations shown by Expert Flyer is an exact science but I was really amazed how lightly loaded the flight appears.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Have you checked the availability of tickets in each of the different fare buckets, or just the seat maps? Doing a flight availability search will give you a much more accurate picture.

We're in Y SYD-LAX in October and same thing. Very light seat take-up. Although this time I'm almost relieved, The last few flights have been packed to the roof in all cabins, so much slower everything!

I know it's a while off, but usually at this stage, there is a steady and increasing seat allocation.

I have done several SYD-LAX flights in J and every flight has been a pack out. Have also done two BNE-LAX flights and they have been very close to 100% full.

I'll be doing MEL-LAX in July, so will be interesting to compare.

They really seem to fill up during the 3 months before departure.

Flight availability search showed that for every ticketing class there were at least 7 seats.

I do this a couple of times a year and find loads extremely variable. Sometimes it's half full, sometimes it's absolutely chockers. IME it's usually chockers more than empty though.

Premium cabins often fill pretty late

I'm paxing on tomorrow's VA1 to bring home VA2 on Tuesday (LA date), looks like I'll be in Y with only 4 seats in J left and 2 in W! There were 11 seats in J free yesterday.

My guess is the upgrades are starting to be confirmed, which is good for the business I guess. Anything to keep me in a job!

That's quite poor that you'll be in Y for a paxing flight. I'm actually quite surprised.

Yep! For duty travel on long haul only, we get confirmed economy, upgradeable to business. Luckily(?) those 4 seats didn't get used so I was able to get J for the flight across.

Out of interest, do you know who would have priority in the upgrade queue? Staff on duty travel, or FFers with a points upgrade request?

Definitely FFers with a points upgrade will get cleared first, then staff on duty travel, followed by staff on leisure travel. Of course the upgrade only applies to VA services on long haul only, not short haul where everyone on either duty or staff travel go into Y.
