I am currently booked on VA J SYD-HKG on 18 Jan at 10am. I checked AA and noticed that QF F is available on QF127 departing at 9:35am for 50K miles.

The question is, is QF F worth it over VA J, especially given it is on their A380, and with HKG being such a mess, i may ended up getting a downgrade if they swap out the A380? I have only tried QF/VA J domestically and not sure what to expect for international. My only other benchmark would be SQ J, F, Old/New Suites on the same route to HKG via SIN, plus other J such as JL, TG, OZ. CA. So I would like to see how they match up with others.

I am only QF and VA Gold so I guess I am relying on the ticket to get me respective lounge accesses.

QF F for 50K AA points is a bargain considering they want 57.5K in business class for a much shorter transatlantic flight. I'd grab the QF F which will be significantly better than VA J in every way - seating, food, champagnes, lounges (QF F lounge in SYD including spa).

QF F can't compare to SQ F, but it beats everyone of those other airlines in business class.

QF mini F vs VA J? if you can afford the points and want to splurge then sure take F. There's a chance they may downgrade the 380 if the situation in HKG gets worse, but then you can still get J(VA would be better though). However F lounge in SYD adds a little extra to the experience too.
