Enduring a trip to coughet with the family on JQ this school holidays...

What's everyone's experience with the Flounge menu with respect to kids? While I'm more than happy with spicy pork belly, sashimi, lobster thermidor etc my two boys won't. Do they do something simpler as well as fancy?

I've been through the MEL Flounge myself plenty of times but never paid attention to the menu with kids in mind.

(and yes for those hoping they don't get stuck in the lounge with my two young boys, they are of course polite little angels)

I can't specifically recall anything, but believe there would be something child friendly in there.

Don't forget, we have a "Current F lounge Menu" thread (linked to a recent post by blackcat20 showing the current MEL menu).

Best bet is to book a meeting room when you enter, as you can then keep the noise contained within a room, and there's a TV, computer, desk etc...

They do have burgers, club sandwiches, minute steaks and the ever popular salt and pepper squid.
Plus their chips are pretty damn good

I'd say their are enough options for the fussy young

The Mel F lounge made my 2 y/o special breakfast that was made to order different from the menu, a small pancake with strawberries and chopped banana's and a yoghurt with some honey and toasted coconut through it.

My boys haven't had any problems with the menu. Generally chips, burger, S&P squid, chicken etc have all be winners for them. Then again, I have always challenged my children's eating choices/selections from young. Last time I think one of them even order the minute steak as well.

Didn't even know that there is a kids menu option.

When we visit as a family, I generally ask if we can have a meeting room and we camp out there. Closed door to minimise disturbing others (not that our boys as noisy brats) and its a win for us too as we enjoy the privacy.

The food is "free" so if they don't like something they don't have to finish it and you don't have to finish it for them either. Provided you've got enough time you could always order something else from the menu if you need to.

I always insist on breakfast and lunch, followed by at least 2 desserts :p

I've never really thought of the F lounge menu as being too adventurous. Sure, there's often a Spice Temple inspired dish, but it's more inspired than true to form I've found.

There's always* a stack of the kids menus on the staff benchtop opposite the two private rooms. Along with the regular menu.

Unless there in early-to-mid morning, that area is usually a bit quieter (why I like it) and possibly easier for families to spread out.

I'd head there so you can see what's on offer in any event, before heading to a table if that's where you want to end up.

* I don't look out for them but recall seeing them there more than once. That's enough for me to say Always.

You feel the need to eat the leftovers after the grommets have chunked through it?

I like your style. I have on occasion also ordered dessert x2 when having a meal.

IMHO I don't find the menu adventurous either but each to their own.

I also remember that there is ice cream (Gelatissimo ??) on menu for both small and larger kids :)

Note with the burgers, ensure they cook the meat right the way through. Once had a burger for then Miss 6 yr old come out med-rare. We only found out as we cut it in half for her.

As an aside, what have people's experiences been with getting more than getting more than 2 kids into the Flounge? I am going to ZQN with the wife and 4 kids (14 down to 9) in a couple of months and as a newly minted WP would love to experience the Flounge for the first time. Have never had a problem getting everyone into the QP/ int J lounge but I imagine QF may be more strict with this one?

Arrive early, be nice about it and see what they say. You could mention at the First Class check-in counter (if that's open at that time) that you've just levelled up to WP and would love to try out the First Lounge. If the lounge is quiet you never know. They may call the Lounge and ask for you. If the First Class check-in is closed you could ask at the lounge entry.

I have been able to get an additional adult guest to what I was entitled to before (wasn't taking any kids in), but this was for on a trip in discount J to LHR.

One would think asking for two extra guests is definitely pushing it.

You may need to go into the lounge with two of your kids and leave your wife and other two kids in the terminal or settle for the International J Lounge.

If you can level up to P1 before your trip you'll get a couple of First Class Lounge invitations.

Oh boy!! You make it sound so easy - just level up to P1.
Well I don't know how much DrJ flies. For all I know DrJ could have got WP very quickly into a new membership year with a huge increase in business travel.
