Hi All, a long time since I last posted. Just now I was checking my QFF status credits because a loyalty bonus is due, having hit 500 credits today. I noticed in the "fine print" that ..."from 1 July 2013, only Status credits earned from flights with a QF flight number (including partner airline flights with a QF flight number) will contribute to the Status credits calculation for the Loyalty Bonus."

Made me pause for thought. This is yet another quiet, simple, subtle way for QF to further reduce the opportunities to earn points (while slipping through other sneaky ways to demand more points for redemptions). It is a long time ago in the mid 1990's that they did the biggest 'chop', when points earned were changed from 1 per km to 1 per mile. An instant 3/8ths cut in earnings!!! Since then, there have been many smaller instances with a large negative coughulative effect.

I did a quick search to see if anyone has documented the long saga of ever worse 'earn and burn' in the QFF but didnt find any such entry. Does anyone know of one? Or have the macabre list of injuries inflicted on QFF members over the last 20 years?

Cheers!

For me, it was the introduction for Fuel Fines and the inclusion of those in the "Taxes and Surcharges" required for co-payment on award bookings. That was an instant massive devaluation of award redemption value.

I think serfty has a list of devaluations to QFF over the years.

The 1,000 miminum guarantee is quite good for short flights and not sure how this was impacted when QFF introduced 10 zones for SCs earn and awards.

loss of anytime lounge access for WP

2400 not 2100 for PG

increase in bonus pts for SG and PS but no change for WP

cap on loyalty bonus

effective devaluation of pts in 2004 or 2005

'taxes and charges' on CSA increasing despite fares costing less

these are all since I joined QF FF when BA shut ANZ EC & transferred (& that was another devaluation of pts but still better than the poor souls who had Ansett mambership)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

This changed in 2001, along with a number of other changes (it was a big change!)

It certainly was a big change - with a limited sweetener of the introduction of the Status bonus - so those with higher status saw less nett effect on earning.

I thought it was more recent than that..?? Oh well - my Old-Timers is kicking in.

In fairness - IIRC a number of redemption levels were lowered at the time too (not quite full recompense-but there were some improvements).

Around 2004 IIRC there was the near-doubling of upgrade points requirements for Int too.

This was a a result of the installation of Skybeds. In fairness - while the points cost increased - so did the quality of the hard product.
This was also the time that upgrades went from confirmed to wait listed too IIRC.

Quite a series of big changes.

For me it was when PER-SIN return in J went from 45k to 100k. Also the replacement of Upgrade Credits with the loyalty bonus just as I was starting to fly more with QF.
