Hi all

I've typically done a route from Perth to Melb via sydney or brisbane as a transit flight to try bank more status credits.

Typically the Elevate fare class for this might be 400ish with the getaway at 300ish.

However when checking today, it appears that all the elevate fare classes for this route has been jacked up to 590 which seems awfully high.

The price for a Per-Mel-Syd flight however still has elevate fares at 400ish which was the price previously for Per-Syd-Mel.

Could there be a glitch in the system? Does anyone know whats happening for this?

Double status credits promotion on now?

Elevate, Gateway and Freedom are fare families. Each consists of a number of fare classes, each at different price points. If Elevate is at 590, it just means the buckets at lower price points have sold out.

Nope.

The fares went up a day or two before DSC began. They'll come back down afterwards...

There still there via Brisbane for 360 odd, so it's something other than DSC. Maybe Sydney has been removed as an allowed stopover for the fare,\\

(and looking closer, Business doesn't seem to have been affected, so I'd say its the route maps that have changed,)

This happened last time if I recall, only freedom fares impacted. Maybe it's permanent.

Paging @serfty not sure if EF can check historical fares still but perhaps one would notice a chance in fare basis between 28-31 Jan...

Interesting. Where did you see that transitting through brisbane on elevate was still 360? I couldnt find that. Just seems odd that any transit to melbourne for elevate has been jacked up

That seems to be the case:

Thank you serfty - I assumed this would be the case.

I note the fare was created 28 Jan 19, effective 29 Jan 19, as I guessed above.

Wait for around Feb 13-16 or so, and watch it change back (in my opinion - time will tell but history says this will occur)

So, did the price come down again after the DSC promo ended?

Actually no, I just checked and it's still combining two separate fares when offering a MEL-x-PER flight. I am holding out some vain hope it will change back.

It is a concern for passengers as quite apart from any status credit benefits, it severely limits the ability for one to get a reasonable deal if direct flights are very pricey - particularly in the current environment of rationalisation of capacity.

I was surprised they still had so many. Qantas used to as well, but removed a lot of the routing options over time.
