Is there such a thing as status within status on QF?

Let me explain. Both my father and I are QF Gold. We both purchased seats on the same flights for the same trip but since we purchased individually we have different PRNs.

Now when I log on to select seats, I have a greater selection of seats and rows than my father.

I would have thought that since we are both Gold, we should seen identical seat availability, however, this is not the case.

Therefore, anyone else seen evidence of status within status?

Thanks in advance.

What is the difference in seating that you see?

I often find if you select a seat further up certain seats are then blocked/unblocked, so you wont see the same seats after that, until you move further back and the seats up front (assuming that’s where you’re looking) are reset back to 'default'.

Couple of questions:

1) International or domestic?
2) If domestic are you withing the T-80 period?

(but I have seen what Samh004 is describing, as you move around the cabin, different seats become available...)

I'm thinking PCV is coming into play....

Is he LTG or just normal gold?

Both Dad and I are Normal Gold with LTB.

Well I can get into 1F with 1D empty. However, I can't get Dad into 1D. Best I can get him is 2F.

Similar with other flights; ie. I can get 1 row more further forward than Dad can.

1. Domestic flights.

2. Yes, within T-80.

Sorry, what's PCV?

Fare bucket?

Same fare buckets (from what I can see within Manage Your Booking).

I could be wrong (am currently jet lagged) but is that a shadow issue? Maybe call up and link the bookings?

Because you were not buying fares together. Once you chose a seat , your status protected the seat next to you?
Mrs GPH does that sometimes when she books me on a flight , then decides later to join me, the system doesn't recognise us a couple. , just a thought

The thing to test is moving yourself back, and then looking to see what he can see. If he can now see the seat that he couldn’t before then it’s because of the system giving you a shadow, or him, either way. You’ll probably need to phone up to sit together.

I had a similar issue with my sister one time where I chose a seat, but then she couldn’t choose the one next to me. She was a lower status than me so she had to choose first and then I chose next to her :p

This is something that I had also thought Qantas might be doing. As I have rasied in status I did notice a minor improvement in seats that were available for selection. It seemed to occur in jumps (rather than being gradual) relative to status credit level. So for instance once you pass half way between gold and platinum there is a jump in the seats avaliable for selection. Maybe just concidence. But hard to prove or disprove definatively.

How much do we know about PCV and how its calculated?

Do the search as I indicated. Also search for "theoretical seats" (Use "'s around the two words.) It would be one of the earliest mentions.

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...
