Hi All

I have not done as much travel as usual this year and am running out of time to retain Gold. Need 275 by May 1.
I am looking to find the best options for Qantas status credits from Sydney to Singapore
Flying out 21st or 22nd Jan and return 25th or 26th Jan 2018
Single person.
I looked at Syd/Brisbane/Sin return.
If I go the full flex then I get 80 each way but it is quite expensive at over $2K
I don't mind using some points, but they want about 140K miles to get it to about the $1K mark (which is about what I want to pay) so that is 142 miles per SC.

Any ideas on how I can get max SC for min outlay.

Thanks
Mike

You can take Jetstar SYD-DPS-SIN for $595 on a max bundle and 90 SC, then Qantas back SIN-BNE-SYD for $606 and 40 SC. Jetstar both ways is $1,457 for 170 SC.

How much time are you happy to spend flying?

I am thinking Economy to Denpasar for 60 SC in Discount Economy on Qantas or 80 SC with Jetstar Plus bundle
then
Denpasar - Singapore on Malaysian in Business is $528 for another 160 Status Credits

You will get more status credits but lose a day minimum on extra travel

OK I am new to this as you will have probably gathered.
How do find / book those flights as I can't seem to find them on the qantas site.
I also cant book both an economy and business at the same time.

Do I use a different system.
Thanks

No problems xd9000 - you will need to make separate bookings for each, so as an example:

21/1 - QF43 SYD-DPS 16:55-20:20
26/1 - QF44 DPS-SYD 21:20 - 06:25 (+1)
$917 - 70 SC on Qantas

22/1 - MH714/613 DPS-KUL-SIN 13:10 - 18:25
26/1 - MH604/851 SIN-KUL-DPS 09:55 - 15:25
$528 - 160 SC booked on Malaysian

This means you need to spend overnight in Bali and your connections are not protected (hence why i have given you a 6 hour gap) on the return. Really it just depends on your appetite for flights and layovers. I also haven't quoted Jetstar but it works the same - book through their website and add the Plus bundle.

wow that is great info.
Bit if a shock looking at the IDR numbers :) until you convert them.
how do you know the number of Q SC you get when looking at the MH website though ?
Thanks
Mike

I think I may have worked it out although I am still confused.
Q Webiste gives some general calcs for partners
Frequent Flyer - Flying Qantas & Partner Airlines - Flying with Partner Airlines - Earning Qantas Points
751 - 1500 miles in business is 60 SC and I looked at milage calcs and it is about 1219 DPS to KL and 180 KL to SIN
I then found
Frequent Flyer - Flying Qantas & Partner Airlines - Points Calculators - Earning Points
Earning Points & Status Credits Calculator
If I submit DSP to Sin then is does not give me MH as an option.
If I do DPS to KL and then KL to SIN it does give MH.

It shows discount business DPS to SIN as being 60 SC each way, but that is direct.
DPS to KL is 60 in business and KL to Sin is 40 - total 100.
Is that correct.
It is a little less SC for the return.

Just checking I have all this correct.
Thanks
Mike

I use a three step process for partner flights.
1. Confirm booking class of the flight with the partner (Malaysian) - this is usually listed in the Malaysian booking page on the right hand side (their booking engine is down for me at present so i cannot show you)
2. Cross reference with the partner airline earning table and find the booking class at Frequent Flyer - Flying Qantas and Partner Airlines - Flying with Qantas & Jetstar - Earning Qantas Points (flights in SE Asia fall in the all other flights row)
3. Enter this class and route into the Qantas calculator at Frequent Flyer - Flying Qantas & Partner Airlines - Points Calculators - Earning Points

You will need to break up each leg in the calculator and ensure you have your Qantas status and airline added. Doing a dummy calculation for me i get 230 SC and 14,625 points (see: Imgur: The magic of the Internet) for approximately $1445. You could theoretically get more for flying Jetstar with a bundle but i have just been working off the Qantas/Malaysian example.

Thanks Wanderlust_tim
I booked the flights and I will hopefully get the 230 SC's
Just waiting to see the CC info from MH transaction to see what the actual price was in the end.
Really appreciate the assistance
