Hi all

Relative newcomer so apols for simplistic questions in advance.

Am around 90 SC's off velocity platinum and am considering a status run this week to get the require SC's (some expire next week). Question - if I fly eg BNE to SYD via Canberra, do I get the SC's and miles for each sector I.e. some for BNE to Canberra, and some for Canberra to SYD?

Also any tips for a quick trip to get the 90 SC's appreciated.

You've got the right idea with indirect flights. You should have done it last week when you could have used points to book a business class indirect fare and earn status credits though!

As DeKa said, indirect is the way to go. The AFF motto is "Why fly direct, when you can connect". This has only been the case since January, but its well worth finding indirect flights, especially given some can be had for only an insignificant difference in price. Not sure I can offer any good efficiency tips, but I can warn you about the status credit black hole. One of the peculiarities of the Velocity status system is that any status review leading to a change in status occurs the day after the relevant points threshold has been passed and your Annual review occurs 12 months after that date. The result is if you hit say 1010 points, your status is reviewed the following day and those extra 10 points disappear into the black hole - they don't help you achieve platinum and they don't (really) count towards requalification. (There are instances where extra points have been counted, but that's very much dependent on someone at velocity being in a good mood when it's time for your status review). 10 points doesn't sound like much, but I believe some people have overshot by a not insignificant margin (I myself have booked trips for 2 that have earned in excess of several hundred points per person in a single day). Just something to watch out for.

Follow up - as I'm encroaching on platinum, and am relying on some status runs in the near future to get there, I wondered if anyone could tell me if it's the SC's activity date (i.e. when flightsbwerebtaken) that counts towards status or is it the date they are credited? I have some flights on the weekend that I'm relying on family pooling for the SC's, and I have some status credits expiring a couple of days later. I am also thinking of a status run on Monday for the last 20 SC's I need but obviously don't want to do this if it's not the activity date that counts.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

It is the date the flights were commenced, e.g. if your flight time was 11.55pm 31 July then it would credit for July.
