Hi AFF's

Find myself in Shanghai for the next two weeks and was considering a SCR on OW next weekend (7/8 July). The most suitable I have found so far is CX routing PVG-HKG-SIN-HKG-PVG which in J yields 280 SC on QFF for about $1200AUD. (If any AFF's know of a better yield, i am up for it!)

As i just want to minimise time on the ground in Singapore (it's only for the SC this time), there are options on the CX booking system to return get on flights that are 75mins after landing in SIN from HKG. I assume this would mean I would need to be able to check-in to this flights either at PVG or during transit at HKG. Then upon arrival I just transfer through onto the next plane and take off again. This gets me back into PVG

Does anyone have any experience on being able to checkin into these flights in advance at the original point of departure? And if so, was it successful? I suspect it's way to tight, and might need to adjust to expectations. But I keen to hear others experience and see if it's worth the fun of an overnight trip instead sitting in the hotel room.

If it's all booked on one ticket I wouldn't be too concerned... CX will protect you all the way back to PVG.

You're doing this over a weekend which suggests you'll be overnighting in HKG on the outbound from PVG? That's the only major issue I see - being the PVG-HKG sector which could run anywhere from 0 to 2, 3, 4 or more hours late (none of which are uncommon).

If you are planning to do it all on one day PVG-HKG-SIN-HKG - you'd have to have all the stars align, although the first flights of the day might give you half a chance.

Trying to do 3pm PVG departure on 7th to return back by 11am on 8th. This creates the 75min return transfer in Singapore. As there is a minimum of 17 hours travel, I know I am trying to have my cake and eat it too..
Am used to the issue of PVG delays, and have factored this in when selecting the flights outbound. Have found CX flights more reliable than KA, not sure of this reason, so trying to align the CX flights to make it work.

I can't seem to find any 3pm departures on CX metal? There's KA flights at 1430 and 1550, and a CX at 1220 and 1745.

If you could leave earlier in the day you'd build yourself a buffer.

You'd be able to check-in online? I've done routes such as BKK-HKG-MNL return and TPE-HKG-MNL return and CX issues all 4 boarding passes with lounge invitations at first departure.

Transfer desk in SIN is also an option.

Also I'm assuming the aircraft arriving into SIN is also flying back?

Youll be fine...if you cannot get the return BP at PVG back from SIN just ask at the transfer desks or the loungeim HKG before the first SIN leg. Have never had an issue at HKG for many TPE turns in the past.

Its possible you will turnaround on the same bird at SIN but if not youll be safe in case of delays ...the return PVG leg will almost certainly be late regardless.

Thanks all for the replies. Will try & book this afternoon while transferring this afternoon in HKG & build in buffer on the outbound PVG-HKG leg. At least if it is on-time I can spend time in CX F lounges :)

Update, booked first KA flight out (7:20am) from PVG-HKG to not only build buffer but also pop into HKG and see some people & have a beer my favourite bar in town. Must remember in HKG to get on train in time for the 4:40pm flight....

Thanks all for the feedback. Flights taken & points already posted. The flights out were all on time. But ran int delays on the SIN-HKG & subsequent HKG-PVG leg, but was only an hour which wasn’t too bad.
Looks like back here in a fortnight with a trip to HKG again, might considering booking it as a multi to pop a SR into the HKG run again.

Update; had to come to Hong Kong from Shanghai this last week again and so did this as part of a multi sector. Did the PVG-HKG-SIN-HKG with a 1hr turnaround in SIN. Made it with enough time to enjoy breakfast noodles in the new T4 lounge :)
But I did get a lot of strange looks & questions from the security at Singapore Transit. Once I explained why, they just laughed & I was on my way again.
