I have been SG for three years - this year I could possibly stretch to 1200 SC but not the 1400 needed for first time qualification . Do Qantas ever award WP based on achieving the 1200 SC ? cheers

Not that I've heard of. They're usually fairly strict on the initial qualification

As you haven’t achieved WP previously you require the 1400 SC’s,no if’s no buts

I was requalified at around 1050 once, but I had been WP a few years and had always been way over the required SC, not sure they'd do it unless you could show they'd stuff up some of your credit allocations.

Do you fly often enough that a status run would be worth it to get WP? 200 isn't much to earn.

Status comps seem to have gone the way of the dodo anecdotally.

Indications are you’ll have to earn the 200 SC yourself initially, with QF reportedly tending to want a hefty sum of points (~100K) if you’re trying to requalify and falling short rather than giving you a freebie.

Thanks - I reckon i will finish on 1100 so i was thinking a 100 status run but 300 will not get past mrs TonyD !!

When I first met my wife she thought it was annoying I wanted everything booked OW always even if available bit more expensive , until we first started going on holidays and using SYD loungue and partner lounges! When I lost WP and she used the SG lounge for the first time she joked we were getting divorced after the holiday

Never heard it happening for a first time qualification. You wouldn't get a look in even at 1370 I reckon. Sorry.

Depending on your membership anniversary they *may* throw you a +50% targeted SC offer to induce you to go to WP but it's definitely not something I'd count on (nor a global Double SC (DSC) offer). Still you never know I guess.

(edited to remove comment related to a misread of OP post)

Since this isn't a requalification that wouldn't apply anyway (just as an mention ofa comp). As far as QF is concerned the OP has requalified for Gold and well on the way to Platinum, but certainly not eligible for any kind of "requalification" offer for a status not yet attained.

IMHO

I would agree the status comp is not totally gone from the face of the planet, but I suspect it is now a very manual and rare case process rather than the previous seemingly automated system in place. There's always special cases for anything but it certainly does not seem to have been an active "thing" in the last 6-9 months or so for folks to receive a status requalification comp.

$2800 can get you the requisite 240 SC SYD - CHC return in F, if you desire to qualify for QF WP so much.
SYD - CHC in F with EK but with a QF flight number will get you 120 one way, for about $1400, $$$ I do admit.
The other 60 can be flying flexY domestic somewhere from SYD. Edit: ah, looks like only SYD - ASP return gives 30 x 2 = 60 QF SC in flexY.
I did put in a lot of flights to achieve QF SG for 3 years, from 2015 to 2018, but now that EK no longer flies from most Au cities to NZ, looks like I will drop to NB again.
I don't see it as an impossibility, I see it more so as a difficulty in getting approval from she who must be obeyed, you know, she might approve if she travels with you and is a fan of the MEL/SYD QFi F lounges!

don't forget you'll be able to get a loyalty bonus of 50 sc when you hit 1000 sc (I'm assuming you have already collected the one at 500 sc), so you actually only need 150 sc rather than 200

I was a surprised and grateful recipient last September - so possibly one of the last if they are no longer happening.

Agree that you need to get over the hurdle for first time qualification.

Status comps seem to have gone the way of the dodo,
And replaced by the ability to spend points to retain status.
From a few posts this seems to be 120k for Plat and 90k for Gold (and doesn't vary based on how far you are short).

Had a friend who paid the 120k in about 280 SC (2 family holidays booked in the next 12 months made it easy)

Sorry I may be missing something here ? Can I use FF Points to buy status credits ? If so please advise how ?
