Hi folks

Has anyone heard whether Virgin might repeat last year's status matching? My lounge membership with Qantas is about to expire but not worth the move to Virgin unless I can status match given the high initial lounge membership.

I wouldn't think they would do that again or at least for a while. The last one was part of the brand refresh.

Sent from my GT-I9300T using AustFreqFly

I tried (via the call centre) a week or so ago and was told politely "No". Apparently the offer ended last September or so.

I am going to visit the DJ lounge next week and will ask in person. Don't like my chances but can't hurt to try.

I would not call. Send them an email requesting a status match. You have nothing to lose.

They never matched lounge memberships though... If you're a Silver QFF and managed to match to Silver VFF the joining fee is waived though, so that's a bonus.



Became QF Wp recently and asked for status match by email

they declined

I showed Maserati my VW but they declined to give me a new Maserati... terrible service really.

I have heard many people have been asking about a status match and they have declined them all.

Maybe they will look at it again when they are relauching a product or maybe they are going to look how many real plats they have versing plats that just got it for the hell of it to get another card in the wallet.

Needing a lounge membership implies you are only silver.

You don't get that much benefit from silver tier in both programs. So is it that important for you to get a status match?

Thanks Pu Koh

Yes, QF silver. I am at the point of needing to renew QF lounge. If VA status matched QF, I'd join their lounge instead of QF, avoiding the bronze VA lounge joining fee. I also told VA I'd join their lounge and move all my flying to them, but they declined to make the match. If VA seemed likely to offer a general match as per last year, I would just wait for that to happen, then join their lounge.

I can't see VA repeating the status match. It would devalue the brand they are building. I think Simo made the good point they will be looking at who just went along for the years ride......

The OP had a genuine enquiry IMHO

I don't believe there is any current plan to.

As far as I know, the approach of late has been to use the 'Trial Gold' approach. How exactly they select members for trial gold is a bit of a mystey though....

A mystery with the same depth as to who gets selected for double SC's!

Don't move to VA - QF is better ;)

And if you're seriously wanting to move, just move, and start earning status with VA.
