Recently completed a return flight with Qantas SYD/HNL, Business Class. Departed on August 21 and returned on September 12, and I assumed that Status Credits earned (140 x 2) would be credited to my Frequent Flyer Account on completion of my journey, Sept 12. My Membership Anniversary Date is AUGUST. However, Qantas (being super efficient), have credited my departing flight of 140 Status Credits on Aug 21 then promptly on Sept 1 deducted same 140 Status Credits. So I have absolutely no benefit of Status Credits gained on the departing flight. Members assistance or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

These status credits have expired (just like any you've previously earned from September 2018 onwards) and are not actually "deducted" as they will still count towards your requalification as well as lifetime tally...

That's how it works..
Flights fall into the year based on departure date of each individual flight.

They are even backdated when it takes time to hit the account (as can happen with some partners)

This isn’t Qantas being efficient or sinister in any way. This is Qantas acting as per the rules and terms and conditions of the Qantas Frequent Flyer scheme.

Just to add to what everyone else is saying, this shows the program is working as intended, in the correct fashion. There is no issue with what you have reported, other than it perhaps doesn't work for your particular circumstances.

OP that's why you have to understand when SCs expire and make the system work for you. If your goal is to climb the status ladder then next time structure your trips so they fall early enough in your membership year to accrue the SCs needed. The gurus here are attuned to when SCs are earnt and time them for maximum benefit to their status - 140 SCs is painful to lose but now you have start on your new year with the other 140 SC, members here spread their travel across a new year and even have nested itineraries when it means it's working to their benefit.

The rule is fair, and in some case, it works in your favor. How would you feel if you need some SC to requalify, you take the flight just before your membership renewal, but you get the point posted 2 weeks too late? Well, in this case, the SC goes into the correct (past) membership year, and you requalify. You would feel happy.

The only SC for which you sort of control the timing is the loyalty bonus at 500 / 1000 / 1500 SC on Qantas and Jestar. You have I think 3 months to decide between getting 50SC or 8000 miles. This way if you hit the bonus within the last 3 months of your membership year, you can decide which side of the year those points will contribute to (if you go for the 50SC).

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

And you DO derive a benefit from those SC's - they all add to your lifetime tally no matter which membership year they are earned.

Now you will know for the future how it works.
