Status credits silver first time ever-earn on fwd journey-what do i use 4 on way home

Hi, I have a forward journey Perth Toronto on 8 august . My daughter and I will both make 100 status credits (I presume this is silver?) on forward journey. Trip home is new York Hong Kong, stopover, hk Perth. All Cathay pacific. What would we use them for on way home? A lounge? And aRe they effective straight away or do we have to wait until next statement?

Not sure of your question. The SCs you earn on the way over go towards status - as colin 2905 says, need 300 to get to silver; SCs (and points) usually post a few days after the flight for QF, a bit longer for partners. You can't 'use' SCs for anything else. You will also earn Qantas FF points (amount depending on fare and carrier). These you can use as earned, but unless you have an existing balance, you may not have enough for anything very useful, certainly not flights at this stage. See here. Don't be too upset. Silver gets you next to nothing anyway. You would get a single-entry lounge pass in the mail after you get home, for a QF-operated lounge only (and only when on "QF or Jetstar flight number" ), which expires in 12 months. If you want lounge access on a North American itinerary, look at the AA 30-day membership (which IIRC allows a guest) ... but make it QF/AA metal only and stick to ports that have QF/AA lounges.

OP you should also double check you fare bucket if flying on Cathay, as not all fares earn points and status credits on Qantas. Only BHKLMVY earn points and status credits. Been caught out myself with this, though admitingly on a SIN-BKK-SIN flight on CX.

thanks. im paying $50 to make them accrual seats as opposed to group fare economy, ta says they will then earn points but I don't know what 'letter' They are. Will get a firm idea after holidays

It's normally the Tuesday after the flight IME.
