Has anyone ever stayed at a St Regis property, and do you recommend it? I'm booking St Regis in NYC and am a tad concerned it'll all be a bit snooty?

I've stayed at a couple of W properties (comparing it here because they were 'expensive') and really didn't like the airs the staff put on, and I wonder if it's the same thing at all 'expensive' SPG properties?

Do let us know what it is like with a trip report, we are looking at booking St Regis NYC for a trip next year also.

Not hugely helpful for you but I have stayed at two St.Regis properties - Osaka and Singapore. I enjoyed them both and would equally return to them both. The St.Regis style is more 'formal' in aesthetic than some other hotels. I am sure there would be some cultural overlays on how staff behave in some countries. It might be worth heading over to Flyertalk and seeing what reviews/comments they have over there.

PS It would be great to have a St Regis here in Melbourne. I would have a staycation there :)

Yes, it will be snooty ...particularly in New York ..but that is why I go to the St. Regis in the first instance ...to see how the other half live.

I don't mind the guests being snooty - I love people watching, and get a kick out of being the girl from Bankstown in amongst them

It was the staff at W that put me off ever staying there again. Every interaction they looked down their nose at me, to the point the guys at the front didn't get a cab for me but rather pointed to where I could flag one down on the main road. At breakfast I was told they don't really do tables for 1, and by the pool I was bypassed by the waiters while they asked everyone around me if they needed more drinks

They either didn't think I was rich enough for them in my Billabong rubber thongs, or they were affronted at the thought of serving a dirty Mexican - or whatever the f they thought I was because they all spoke to me in Spanish

Wow that sounds like a very substandard experience.

Stayed at three, none were "snooty". Singapore was the most formal. Princeville was pretty laidback as was the one on Mauritius.

Agree with the W comments. Stayed at one in Miami and was very unimpressed.

I've only stayed at the one in San Francisco. Love the idea of the butler service, but the other half and I were a bit too intimidated to use them! WA country folk ay..... Every single staff member at the property was extremely friendly, always smiling and nothing was ever too much hassle. The concierge staff were particularly helpful. Hopefully get a similar experience when we are in NYC in September, we are also going to give the one in Aspen a shot after the big apple. Will report on both stays.

Nice! Can't wait to read the TR.

We have stayed in the St.Regis Singapore and we thought it was snooty.Haven't been back.
St.Regis Shanghai was fantastic though-but they closed that one.
We are not fans of W but the W Brisbane was fine though a bit trendy for us.

I've been lucky enough to stay at a bunch of St Regis properties at Singapore, Macau, NYC, Nusa Dua, Shenzhen, Beijing, Shanghai, LA and Monarch Beach. Amongst the things I appreciate about St Regis is a consistent quality of service and the look and feel of the properties being similar. If you're into the high degree of 'snooty' then you can get it. If you're like me and like a more relaxed style then you can also have it. If you're into Butler Services including Ironing / Washing, Shoe Shine, etc then it's yours to enjoy. If you don't you just say 'no thanks'.

Have stayed at the Regis Princeville Hawaii twice and did not find it snooty. Enjoyed the experience. Actually found the staff very warm chatty and engaging, but think that might be a Hawaiin thing.

We stayed recently at the St. Regis Kuala Lumpur and I thought it was quite good value although not the best location. The staff on the whole were quite friendly and helpful.

Stayed at a number of St.Regis in Asia and USA and find it to be very good and customer service is exceptional

I prefer St.Regis over Ritz... was a Ritz fan but after staying at St.Regis, prefer it.
