I've dug through a few threads to find answers for this and I think I know what the response will be, but just wanted to gather AFFs collective wisdom before moving forward.

I'm trying to book something like MEL/SYD - SIN - ZRH/AMS/CPH online with Velocity points, to take advantage of the fact they don't charge for infants.
I can see individual legs with availability on the Velocity site but when I search for a through route that contains those exact legs, no dice. The searches come up fine on KrisFlyer with availability.

My question is - if I call up can I get these tickets booked for the right amount of points? Have people tried this in the past? Will I have a battle to get the right agent or a supervisor?

Are there any examples where people can book Australia to Europe via Singapore directly online? All my searches did not find a single route (there were some weird ones with Silk Air via Cairns though!).

Can't answer the first part of your question, but can confirm that you can book Australia to Europe (via Singapore and flying SQ) online via the VFF website. I just did this - SYD-AUH-MAD (flying Etihad) and AMS-SIN-MEL (flying SQ) - booked online, no problem at all. Ticketed ok and received the Etihad/SQ booking references so I could select seats directly via respective sites.

Yes you can get it done over the phone, but have to know what you are talking about. I.e. routes, point numbers etc. stay firm, ask for a supervisor if you need to. You will know more than the phone agent. I am always polite and start off playing a bit like I have no idea. I.e Oh I can see the individual legs online but can’t seem to book. They should waive all fees too as you can’t do it online.

You can read about my experience doing exactly that here:

Thanks travelislife and SuzieQ, I had found your thread with the search and was basing my question of some of your examples for sure :)

I think there's something in the online engine that is stopping MEL/SYD/BNE-SIN direct segments being joined to SIN-Europe ones - I couldn't find a single example for all the dates Mar/Apr/May next year despite there being availability individually.

I even had it throwing me things like ZRH-SIN-HKG-MEL on SQ/VA when I knew the direct final leg had availability. Crazy!

I'll sort out my ports/dates and try the phones :D. Thanks for the input!

A follow up related question...

Is it possible to book SQ51/52 (SIN-MAN-IAH or any part of it) using Velocity points?

It doesn't get returned as a search option online (you can't even input Manchester as a destination) - has anyone ever booked it over the phone or is it just off limits to VFF?

If it’s a valid routing (I.e. the through ticket is showing on SQ’s website) can’t see why not. Velocity search engine means nothing. Find the individual legs you want available and call up.
