Hi we have a J flight Melbourne - Singapore early July,m return August and it does not give me the option to select meals for either direction.
Any ideas as to why?
Never had this issue before.

Cheers

Re: SQ Book the Cook - issue

It actually varies a bit bw routes - once upon a time was always 3mths due to seasonal menus - last couple years has changed so just log in a month out and order that Lobster Thermidor - that'll give 'em a chance to go catch some. ;)

Yip ... those Thermidor's require not much lead time ... As for the [-]lobster[/-] crayfish, they are harder to catch. :p

Re: SQ Book the Cook - issue

Cheers appreciate the feedback, yes will be enjoying the Lobster Thermidor.

Re: SQ Book the Cook - issue

Can anyone clarify what the Seafood Thermidor is out of Sydney?

Re: SQ Book the Cook - issue

My booked MEL-SIN flight is in December. Also cannot select meals. I would wait until 1 month before flying .......

Re: SQ Book the Cook - issue

Am travelling LHR SIN BNE next week SQ J. My first world dilemma is.... everyone seems to enjoy the Lobster Thermidore. But if I book it, and I don't feel like it on the day, so I have to have it?? Anyone know how it may affect catering?

Appreciate the help of the collective :)

Re: SQ Book the Cook - issue

Although no firsthand experience on this, many others have posted that it doesn't matter... if you don't want what you've pre-ordered, order off the menu instead. Some (I think Cruiser has said this) say that the crew loves it when you don't eat your BTC option, as they get to have a go at it. :) But they will be disappointed when I fly, as two phrases never muttered by me in the same sentence are lobster and not in the mood.

Very disappointed with SQ J service yesterday London Singapore Brisbane. Did book the cook ex Heathrow ( The Lobster). It was cold in the middle! Still delicious though and I was starving so didn't bother to raise fuss. When asked how it was I told them, and they didn't seem particularly bothered.... Glad I did it though as the other choices were not that great. Other half had the "Chicken in a broth" ( my words as best remembered from the menu). Annoyed at myself that I didn't take a pic of the menus. Expecting a nice soupy chicken dish, what came out was slices of chicken mixed with bow tie pasta ( no mention of that on the menu), with some vegetables and a bit of broth way down the bottom, as you can see. None of the food on the whole trip was particularly good. Other half had a couple of noodle snacks en route home. They were never cooked enough and he had to keep the lid on so it steamed through properly. But the worst, the absolute worst, was the "refreshment" a few hours before arriving into Brisbane at 19.45. A choice of either " Smoked Salmon with multigrain, creme fraiche and salad" or beef noodles. I chose the salmon. Was expecting a smoked salmon salad with a multigrain roll etc. What came out was a smoked salmon sandwich on multigrain, pre packaged, placed on a plate with some lettuce and a few cherry tomatoes. Thats right, I had to unwrap my sandwich, take it out of its plastic bag, and place it on my plate. I took off the top price of bread, piled the lettuce and tomato on top and had myself an open sandwich.

Overall we won't be rushing back to SQ...

That's disappointing Bam. As I know you were looking forward to that experience. I'm hoping it was just a bad flight (as I'm going to remain optimistic for my F flight coming up). That being said, we just booked J flights for November SYD-SIN-DPS-SIN-SYD, so I hope they improve over what you've shown here!

Re: SQ Book the Cook - issue

I had a similar quality issue with BTC on SQ flying LHR-SIN just now (I'm sat in the lounge at Changi typing this!).

I had pre-booked the fillet steak which was served basically raw. They offered to cook it "a bit more" but it still came back uncooked apart from a 1-2 millimetre seared edge on the outside of the strak, so I switched to the salmon. The photo is AFTER it was re-cooked

If they'd put out a call for a vet, there's a good chance that it could have been brought back to life...

That's exactly how I order my steak! If a decent vet can't bring it back its too well done :D

Fair enough :)!

I could have eaten it at a push, but wouldn't have enjoyed it; my default option is "medium". That level of cooking certainly shouldn't be the default level for a Book The Cook service!

The missus looks on with utter disgust as she is a well done kind of girl...

Strange to see that on a plane though - normally its the other way around. I've had lamb in both CX PeY and in EY F recently that was tough as old boots and just inedible. The F one got sent back.

Yeah - I'm getting more assertive in my old age, and just asked for the salmon instead....
