Just wondering how I keep my Qantas status earn in a One World (Qatar) booking and would like to switch my points earn to AA.

I don't think I earn anything on Qantas but need QF number for seating. I'm not trying to earn status in any other OW programs either so status credit earn irrelevant.

But I'd rather earn a few points in AA than nothing with QF if possible.

I'll be departing Auckland so hopefully the lounge agents there are good with making these adjustments.

Do I just ask the lounge agent to insert my AA number for points accrual? I don't actually know what to look for on the boarding pass to verify it's been done properly.

There is supposed to be a way to have two FF #'s in a booking - one for status and one for earn. However, there are few airlines that actually do it. I was once told by AA it was possible but in reality no agent could figure out how to make it happen.

In the past when I have tried to change numbers in the lounge the agents have kicked up a fuss and said it's not allowed. The best success I have had is with changing it at a customer service desk or at the gate. Which in your case might be risky as the agents operating the gate might not know how to do it properly (probably being non-QR staff).

If you can get someone to change it, the best way to confirm is have them reprint the boarding pass so you have proof the AA number is on there.

Good luck!

Not sure if I'm missing something here, but can't you just enter your QFF number, select your seats, then change it to the AA number?

I doubt they'll boot you out of your allocated seats after changing FF numbers.

If the airline supports two FF numbers then the two fields are usually FQTS for status benefits) and FQTV (for frequent flyer earning including any status earning).

I've never really taken much notice of my one world boarding passes and haven't heard much about this with one world so fingers crossed it's the same. I'll ask next flight maybe if they have these fields. Thanks.

I don't know if it's a knowledge gap thing as I've had some agents with *A know and some don't. Most did.

There are 4 flights on the ticket. If I put my AA number in but want to use my Qantas number to enter lounges with status, while flying Qatar no status - I don't think that works? Plus someone online said Qatar may remove me from my seat - upper deck economy A380 as it's reserved for at least one world ruby = qf silver and above. I don't want to risk it as I'm excited to try it out.

If I read this correctly your are traveling in a cheap booking class that gives zero points and SCs with QF - just leave your QF number in it and retro-credit to AA.

I suggest you don't do this. The operating airline may consider they have paid QFF for points earning (it isn't always their choice if QFF choses not to award any), and so when apply for retro-credit to another program that FFP will check with the operating airline who'll advise not to credit (since QFF has already been paid from their perspective).

Very interesting, thanks for sharing!
