SPG new promo

Hi all

Received an invitation today to register for the "Let the nights begin" promo.

Essentially the benefits amount to:

"Stay anytime January 5 through April 30, 2014, and earn up to 15,000 bonus Starpoints® when you stay at any of the hotels and resorts in the SPG® program. No exclusions. That's more than 1,100 destinations worldwide, across our nine distinctive brands.

• 2,500 bonus Starpoints for every five eligible nights you stay, up to 20 eligible nights.
• Additional 5,000 bonus Starpoints when you hit 25 eligible nights."

Nights do not have to be consecutive as long as they fall within the promo period.

Gotta say, I love the way SPG handle their online presence. From the design of their websites, their apps (some of the best designed travel apps I've ever seen, both iPad and iPhone), their promo signup process, all first rate.

I've got 4 nights locked in and no doubt will fit at least a 5th in before the promo ends.

I do somewhat miss the old days of SPG promos though (and they weren't all that long ago), when the points earning potential was huge, and at least once or twice a year the promos offered the choice of points or nights for those just short on status.

Aiming for LTG this year. Easily there on years - just need a few more nights!

So it's basically between 500 and 600 bonus points per night.

Minimum 5 nights for any bonus, 25 nights for maximum bonus.

It costs from USD175 and USD525 to purchase between 5K and 15K points. (Subject to 20K per annum maximum).

It's great if you were doing the stays anyway and the 15K can become part of 18K AA miles etc. .

ISTR a time where 100(?) Starpoints could be earned merely for a stay booked online.

Of course there little competition out there, HHonors most recent programs have hardly been worth even registering for...

ISTR a time where 100(?) Starpoints could be earned merely for a stay booked online.

Fairly recently they were offering 250 bonus pts (from memory) for stays booked via their mobile app, to promote usage.

Great for me, as SPG are very good at loading corporate rates and ensuring they show up for all hotels, so I was able to book via the app (rather than corporate TA) and still get the corporate rate.

This is likely a corporate sponsored promo, as opposed to hotel funded, as they have a relatively stingy offering but can spruik the "no exclusions".
