Hi all,
I have a confirmed PER-MAN J saver departing in two wks. The next leg of MAN-IAH (departing 3 wks later) however is still on waitlist. If it doesn’t clear in the end, I will have to either fork out 47k KF for PE or buy a one way Y ticket. The flight is about 10 hours, on SQ A350-900 and no BTC available on that route. So if I do fly PE it will have to be purely because of the (seating) comfort. Have read mixed reviews on SeatGuru, so not quite sure what to expect. Some said the leg rest was more of a nuisance than a benefit, especially for a tall person.

Anyone can share with me their personal experience please? Should I just save my hard-earned points for future J flights and fly Y instead? 😅

Is the MAN-IAH J waitlist in the same booking as the PER-MAN sector? If not, it should be, as you can do a stopover on a one way saver for $100USD.

Now this is where it gets into “I don’t know for sure” territory, but if you get them to waitlist in J but confirm in Y+ they should charge you the same as the points required for the highest class ( J) for the whole journey ... from PER-IAH which is the number you require for PER-MAN +15000 +$100USD for stopover. Vs 22,500 for Y (however the apparent benefit of this arrangement is most likely killed by the additional APD (taxes) you pay for Y+ vs Y, which might be in the order of $200).

Putting this aside there’s no way I’d pay the extra 24,500 plus extra APD for Y+.

@dajop : Thanks for responding. The MAN-IAH is indeed on the same booking as PER-MAN (with the paid stopover). I would actually have to pay around 20k more miles to have the last leg ticketed in the PE class. Crazy! But i thought bugger it if the seat is worth it.

I will most likely not add much value as I do not know how the SQ wait list works and have not flown the SQ a350 Y+ product. I have flown the SQ Y+ on a 777 and would not do it again.

And for reference APD for premium classes (including Y+) is 172 GBP ($306 AUD) vs 76 GBP ($139 AUD) for economy. In addition to saving the points, this $167 savings could be put to purchasing an extra legroom seat if available, which is slightly narrower, but no-one in front of you to recline on you and take away all the extra space you've paid for in Y+ :p

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
