[h=1]Lounge access Terms and Conditions[/h]
  • Complimentary Lounge access is available to Platinum, Gold and Silver Members travelling onwards in any cabin on Emirates flights. A Platinum or Gold Member may access Emirates Lounges across the Emirates network while a Silver Member may access the Emirates Business Class Lounge at Dubai International Airport. Platinum and Gold Members can take a companion travelling onwards on the same Emirates flight as the Member into the Emirates Lounge.
  • Skywards Platinum, Gold and Silver tier Members can pay for additional lounge access beyond the complimentary benefit applicable to their Skywards tier. Skywards Blue tier Members who would otherwise not be entitled to complimentary lounge access can purchase lounge access. Hence, based on a Member’s current tier entitlement,
    • Platinum, Gold and Silver tier Members may choose to pay for additional companion(s),
    • Blue tier Members may choose to pay for lounge access for self and their companion(s),
    • Gold and Silver members may choose to pay and upgrade their complimentary Business Class lounge access benefit to the First Class lounge.
  • This benefit is available only to Members for themselves and any additional companion(s) they wish to bring along, provided their companion is also travelling onwards on the same Emirates flight. This benefit of paid lounge access is available only at Emirates Lounges at Dubai International Airport and only in case onward travel is on an Emirates flight. The fees specified for availing this benefit per adult for 4 hours of lounge access are as follows:
    • First Class Lounges = USD 200 / AED 720
    • Business Class Lounges = USD 100 / AED 360
    • Emirates Lounge = USD 100 / AED 360
    • Upgrade from Business Class Lounge to First Class Lounge = USD 100 / AED 360
  • Emirates reserves the right to amend the lounge access fees at any time in its sole discretion. The fees are applicable for one-time access per adult for a maximum stay in the lounge of 4 hours only. Members (including their companions) exceeding a 4-hour stay in the lounge for any reason whatsoever (including without limitation flight disruptions and delays) shall incur an additional lounge entry fee for each 4 hour segment at the rates set out in 6.3.3 above.
  • Paid lounge access per child aged below 12 years will be charged at half the adult rate set out in paragraph 6.3.3 above. Infants aged below 2 years will enjoy complimentary lounge access. Members choosing to pay for lounge access will have to ensure that payments for the entire duration until departure time are made to the lounge staff prior to admittance. Payments can be made using a Credit/ Debit card only (No cash payments or Miles redemption will be accepted). Refunds are not permitted once the lounge has been accessed, irrespective of the duration of access. The use of the lounge is subject to any applicable terms and conditions as determined by Emirates from time to time.
  • It is acknowledged that the lounge entry fee is currently not subject to any tax (including without limitation GST, VAT and other similar taxes, levies and duties). In the event that any tax becomes applicable in respect of the lounge entry fee, Emirates reserves the right to increase the lounge entry fee to the extent of such taxes at its sole discretion.
  • Emirates reserves the right to withdraw/ limit the availability of the lounge access benefit from time to time. Lounge access is subject to capacity restrictions. Members travelling on Emirates Codeshare Flights operated by other carriers will not be eligible to access the Emirates Lounge, excluding members travelling on Qantas codeshare flights. In some countries minors (under 18 or 21 years of age) must be accompanied by an adult for lounge access. Passengers flying on Emirates Staff tickets are not eligible to access the lounge. Please note that if you are flying on an airline other than Emirates, or on Emirates Codeshare flights operated by any carrier other than Qantas, then your companion(s) will not be eligible for this lounge access.

Just received the email.
I think paid access to lounges really undermines the value of frequent flyer status.

Undermines it (if the lounges become busy), but also puts a price on the value you receive / and provides an alternative versus a status run

So now we are in a dilemma. For 6 hour layover, do we pay for the airport hotel at $216 +/-, or pay the $200 total to go into the F lounge from J lounge and hopefully find a sleeper lounge?

There is no sleeper lounge at A ... just a room with partitions.

That is US$200 by the way.

Eat big on the flight and take the airport hotel for the sleep.

Sleep on the flight and take the lounge for the food.

It would appear that if you are a QF SG then you will not be able to pay to upgrade to the F lounge (you have to be an EK PS or SG). In any case, having never been in the DXB J lounge, is it AUD 133 (per 4 hours) worse than the F lounge?

Paying for additional guest access is one thing but allowing anyone access really does devalue earning status with that airline.

I wonder if this is a precursor to the introduction of a 'J-' fare where things like lounge access and Chauffeur drive are not included in the base fare. Clark has been talking about ramping up auxiliary revenue in the recent past with the first change being the introduction of the seat selection fee in the lower fare classes.

Skift: Is it possible you might focus on selling discounted business class seats instead?
Clark: I know certain segments will take [premium economy] straightaway. Baby boomers, the aging population of Europe. No mortgages, money in the bank, spending the inheritance of the children, that kind of thing. But they would prefer to have a bed.
You might just say, ‘OK, I’ll give you a special price, just for the [business class] bed. I won’t give you the incentives. I won’t give you ground. You’ll get the business product in the air only, and that’s it.’ No chauffeur drive, no business-class lounge, no expedited [security] search. No uplifting your baggage allowance, et cetera. You just pay for the bed. I’ll give you a price for that. Maybe, if you’ve got business class seats going begging, that’s the easy way to go, rather than create a completely new product, which is going to upend the distribution systems, upend service delivery and upend the logistical management on the operational side.

The F lounge in Dubai is stunning. Each lounge area has its own full on catering. It's like a series of lounges within the same huge lounge. Then there is the excellent dining area.

Adelaide flight departs at 2am - so plenty of opportunity to make full use of the facilities. You just have to stay awake!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Well at $133 AUD ($100 USD) for the business lounge and $$266 AUD ($200 USD) for only four hours I'm not sure a lot of people will go this.

Plus apparently you need to be a Skywards member and it is capacity limited (probably not a big problem unless airport is closed).

Still we now know the value Emirate places on their lounges and the value Good and Platinum members get by their stays.

Well EK already limits lounge access on some paid upgrades to business and first so it's not a big step to have unbundled cheap business and first tickets.

You could probably start by removing the access to award tickets in J & F and get these PAXs to have to pay a small fee as an add on if they want lounge access (not that I want this to ever happen I have a F award on EK this November).
