Skytrax 2017 - QF slipping

Qantas, meanwhile, dropped out of the top 10 for the third time in the awards' history, down to 15th place - it's lowest ranking ever - and dropping behind Virgin Australia (13th) for the first time. The airline ranked 9th in 2016. Qantas peaked in the rankings in 2008, when it was named the world's third best carrier.

Qatar Airways named world's best airline for 2017 in annual Skytrax World Airline Awards

Yep, this says all that need be said about these awards. Thai no 1 economy class? Got to be kidding. I do SIN-BKK in Y regularly on TG, just can't see it myself. I suppose long haul they could be better.

Re: Skytrax 2017 - QF slipping

these surveys are questionable at best but it fits with the overall strategy for QF to cut costs and reduce services by stealth to make the business sustainable (kinda like Aer Lingus all over again)

falling customer experience rating would be expected, they're almost moving towards a "new world carrier" model!

Re: Skytrax 2017 - QF slipping

I think the rating really does depend on experience vs expectations. For example I cannot understand how Jetstar gets 44, but Jetstar Asia gets 61 (maybe because of the 787's JQ has). Or how Air Asia ranks 26 and Silk Air 56. On the latter, I assume that Silk Air customers are expecting SQ style service so are sorely disappointed, where as Air Asia customers are not, so it ranks a lot higher.

They are actually not that bad on the SIN-BKK sector in my opinion. Yet to try the long haul.

Surprised that Jetstar Asia is so low and below Air Asia, Jetstar and Air AsiaX.

And in my opinion Bangkok Airways can be much higher.

Most rankings actually make sense but SQ best business class seat? Must be a joke!

Got to say its a reliable source of amusement at my house to see all these comments about the reliability of the survey (i.e. it very subjectively based) but then to see those complaining throw in their own subjectively based assessments.

As I said subsequently, expectation related I guess. All very subjective ( Low expectations + exceeding expectation) will get rated better than airline with (High expectations + not meeting expectations).

I expect mediocre food , limited IFE selection , a random aircraft type, a bus to terminal at BKK, and very good (but not quite right) service flying Y on TG. Get some good food, arrive at the gate at BKK and board a new aircraft will be pleasantly surprised, rate them highly . I expect excellent food, excellent IFE, a newer aircraft and meticulous service flying SQ or EK, anything less and will complain about how disappointing the flight was :p
