Interesting - any of the HKG lovers want to revisit this thread - HKG or SIN - Your Preference?

Top Airport.JPG

Just kidding dudes - of course it is your preference and Skytrax aint the bible.

Also interesting that most of the '10 Things You Didn't Know About SIN' have been reported ad nauseam - <snip> here:

Thanks for posting RooFlyer - when I read most of your posts I think to myself - 'This dude has rocks in his head' - but this is a good post! :D

Thanks for the reminder about the free Singapore Slings. Because you can't get them in lounges any more it seems. SQ F lounge, T3, last couple of times "no we're out of ingredients". QF Lounge "no we can't make them any more because they're our competitors signature drink" and EK lounge - the premix bottles that used to be there to make your own are gone.

I'm looking forward to experiencing the new satellite terminal in MUC with brand new lounges which opens 26th April - will include a trip report and pics after I go through there on 28th April :)

DOH has a swimming pool (part of Airport Hotel) - although its looks like an enclosed glasshouse and quite unappealing.

Most of the usual suspects on the list. Although, LHR , don't think I could agree with that. Whilst, not awful, its certainly not great.

Hamad (DOH) having just been through it twice in the last few weeks for the first time, deserves to be there. Quite good , I felt. Although most of my time was in the Al Mourjan lounge. Which is excellent.

One minus I found with DOH, was the duty free. (I am aware that DF is not the bargain it once could be) I went looking for a couple of specific items, to see if the prices were good. I found on both items, I could buy them cheaper via retail in Australia. Upon finding this, I decided to check a few other random items and apart from alcohol & cigarettes , everything else was available cheaper at retail in Australia. Slightly disappointing.

I find T5 at LHR quite good and that it's the other terminals that pitch it at #8. ZRH is a rabbit warren and doesn't deserve to be on the list at all.

Given that airports are large, expensive monopolies or oligopolies, the same suspects populate these lists year after year. Would be better if there was a most improved airport ranking. It'd be more useful to know if airports that I purposely avoid like LHR, LAX, SYD, et al had lifted their game and earned another chance.

There is a list with a comparison to 2015 , which you can make improvement judgements from.

I'm a little surprised about Incheon - I don't see what all the fuss is about. Yes it has interesting activities to do during transit (you can make your own arts and crafts and stuff), but I don't find the place very welcoming... pretty barren, long walks, often long waits at transit security if coming from the satellite (more than 30 mins is not uncommon and there's no priority), the OZ lounges are somewhat basic (haven't been to the KE ones).

Happy to see HND near the top. One of my favourites in the world.

Haven't been to ICN – hoping to change that this year.

HND is excellent.

SIN's carpet offended my eyes this evening... And I could have been at MEL judging by how long the luggage took to arrive... Totally overrated, and I was lucky enough not to have to walk for miles today too..!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thats a shame.. They used to make a good one as well.

I actually like ZRH landside, good range of amenities and I like the LX (and a couple of other airlines) checkin desks immediately up the escalators from the train platform. However, it loses its appeal once airside. Although the new LX lounge in the satellite terminal are quite nice, but these things are not solely judged on lounge facilities as of course most travelers don't have access.

Glad to see so many Japanese airports in top 10. Totally agree about Haneda and Kansai.

The big elephant in the room is LHR. I just don't get it how can anyone like this airport.

I would be interesting to see both lists, whilst a lot of the things which SIN does well can be duplicated by other airports, for some of the items it's not like other airports can flick a switch and voila there is new infrastructure (eg a swimming pool).

Whilst I've never chosen a transit point per-say (it all comes down to timings and my choice of aircraft / airline, those two factors pick the transit point for me), it would be interesting to see the airports which are trying to lift their game.

LAX would have to be one of these. Had my first transit through there in years last October. TBIT certainly seemed a step up from what I remembered. Of course it's not all roses, inbound to US I was transiting UA -UA and any airport that has terminals operated by UA is bound to cop some criticism. :).

While Skytrax would deny it, would its origin being in the UK and hence popularity with UK residents have anything to do with this?

Some holidaymakers who go to say Malaga or Tenerife may conceivably never have been to another major international airport (apart from LHR) and hence may give it a 'tick' for ranking purposes even though they have little to compare it against.

LHR isn't great to transit but is quite good at T5/T3 for eating and shopping.
