Saw this today - looks like the LionAir tie up and services to Polynesia are no more....
First MacAir, now SkyAirWorld. Another one bites the dust...SKYAIRWORLD ENTERS ADMINISTRATION: Weeks after announcing that it was 'pausing' its operations to restructure, SkyAirWorld has been placed in administration and has had all its aircraft repossessed.
According to an ASIC search, the company appointed Brisbane based PA Lucas and Co as administrators on March 13. Prior to that, the carrier's remaining fleet of two Embraer E-190s were repossessed by lessor GECAS and have since been ferried to Europe.
With the carrier entering administration, uncertainty surrounds its proposed services to East Timor (on behalf of Timor Air) and the Indian Ocean Territories. According to media reports, the federal Attorney General's Department is in talks with operators, including incumbent Cobham (which recently changed its name from National Jet Systems) and Virgin Blue, to take over the twice weekly services from Perth to Christmas and Cocos Islands, which SAW was to have operated from April.
There is also doubt over the entitlements and pay of former SAW employees, with many reportedly claiming unpaid back pay. With many of SAW's assets leased, it is understood that the administrator may have difficulty in meeting these entitlements and other creditors, who are reportedly owed up to $40 million.
