My flight from PER-SIN on Good Friday had an operational aircraft change into their ****ty non-refitted aircrafts.

Tried to switch to the earlier flight without any luck (despite their being commercial availability in J) and wasn't too happy about the last-minute change considering I needed the sleep.

Didn't lodge a formal complaint but received an email today offering me 10,000 miles or S$200 inflight voucher for the inconvenience. A welcome and pleasant surprise!

Not sure if there are too many other airlines out there that would do the same thing...

QF has done this for me a couple of times when a sub occurred. Just snail mail with some QF vouchers

QF even gave me a free flight voucher for a cancelled flight. BTW. 10000 KF miles wont get you but its a good move to making you come back to Singappore Air after the ****ty ircarft they gave you.

Have you considered flying LCC and if you are happy with their services/aircraft, then consider everytime you fly with them, you are saving more than the value SQ gave you in vouchers and points..and better still you use the savings without any restrictions!!!!

Maybe a SQ customer wouldn't be happy flying LCC and that's why they bought an SQ ticket in the first place? Sure you can save $$$ flying LCC but many people find it not worth their while or the few hundred they'll save for the experience they receive. Flying LCC isn't all about the cash, when something goes wrong and it does quite often, it's about how it's handled that makes the difference. The OP was happy with the compensation he received, the acknowledgemet of a problem and the proactivity in it's resolution. I challenge anyone to get the same from a LCC. They simply do not have the resources [nor can they be bothered hiring them] to provide after sales service. What you save in ticket money you pay for in the event of a mishap.

My observation was not about the handling of a problem. Infact that act is commended. It was more about taking the time the post about a substandard service that the customer received but was happy with the compensation received for this substandard service. From another angle, if you fly on an LCC, the compensation that you might receive from SQ is that extra you dont pay have to fly on an LCC.

I can see what you are getting at but on a LCC the traveler rarely gets the first class service when everything goes right. Paying the LCC price is paying upfront for what you know will be low quality. Paying for a premium carrier, gets premium performance 98% of the time with 2% sub-par.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

How is this relevant to this thread or, in fact, this part of the forum?

I have flown LCCs before and I don't think flight cancellations on or just before departure dates and waiting months for refunds is comparable to a SQ operational change that ran on time and a subsequent goodwill offer.

The fact that there are First, Business, Premium Econ, Econ and LCC offerings in the market should shed some light to your question.
