    ..
Hey all, just wondering if you could help me.
Thinking of booking my ADL-SIN, SIN-LHR through Singapore Airlines now instead of with Qantas, $500 difference!
BUT, the "Penalties" in their Fares and Conditions confuse me a little..

    Penalties
FOR HKPROW TYPE FARES CANCELLATIONS BEFORE DEPARTURE CHARGE AUD 120.00 FOR CANCEL. NOTE - BEFORE FIRST FLIGHT DEPARTURE - AUD120 ----------------------------------------- CHILD PAYS FULL CHARGE - NO DISCOUNT ----------------------------------------- THE ABOVE CHARGE DOES NOT APPLY TO INFANT WITHOUT A SEAT. ------------------------------------------- IN CASE OF TICKET UPGRADE THE ORIGINAL NON-REFUNDABLE AMOUNT REMAINS NON-REFUNDABLE. AFTER DEPARTURE TICKET IS NON-REFUNDABLE IN CASE OF CANCEL. NOTE - AFTER FIRST FLIGHT DEPARTURE - NOT ALLOWED ------------------------------------------- IN CASE OF TICKET UPGRADE THE ORIGINAL NON-REFUNDABLE AMOUNT REMAINS NON-REFUNDABLE. CHANGES ANY TIME CHANGES PERMITTED FOR REISSUE/REVALIDATION. NOTE - BEFORE FIRST FLIGHT DEPARTURE - NO CHARGE ----------------------------------------- AFTER FIRST FLIGHT DEPARTURE - NO CHARGE ----------------------------------------- IN CASE OF TICKET UPGRADE THE ORIGINAL NON- REFUNDABLE AMOUNT REMAINS NON-REFUNDABLE. -------------------------------------------- A SERVICE FEE OF AUD60 APPLIES PER TICKET REQUIRING ISSUE/REISSUE THROUGH SQ TICKET OFFICES.

Does this mean I need to pay $120 at check-in? And $60 if I can't print a copy of the ticket sent to my email and need them to issue me a ticket at check-in?

Haha, sorry if this is basic.. but it really isn't clear to me!

I just don't want to have any extra costs I don't know about!

And do SA's have extra taxs? I read something about "blah blah tax not added".. Can't remember the exact works now! Ohh.. Maybe I should do a mock booking again and get the correct wording.. unless you know what I'm on about..

No, unless you change or cancel your ticket you will not be charged any of these charges.

AUD 120 will be due if you cancel the flight.
AUD 60 will be due if you need to reissue. This could happen if you needed to change dates.

If you pay what is due now, change nothing in the lead up to travel, then checkin as per normal on the date of travel then you will pay nothing extra.

There is Australian legislation preventing airliners / travel agents from 'hidden' fees.

No, you do not pay $120.00 at check-in. What it really means is that should you cancel your ticket, and you can only do so before the first flight is taken, you pay (or forfeit) $120.00. After the first flight is taken, the ticket becomes non-cancellable.

Again No, you do not pay $60.00 if you can't print the ticket. What this means, is if you decide to change your booking (dates, flight etc) then SQ can charge $60.00 as a fee for issuing the new / revised ticket.

Sorry to bring some more ambiguity for this, but don't date changes - within the validity of the original ticket -only require "revalidation" not ticket "reissue" (reissue usually for changing routing/class or extending validity of ticket)?

Don't worry, the bottom line is:

    1) If you travel as planned there are NO additional fees
    2) If you need to cancel your flight before departure you will have to pay $120.
    3) If you only want to change dates (and these dates don't break any min/max stay rules ) it should be free. (although SQ seem to charge phone service fees in some countries)
    4) If you wish to change routing or stopovers - then a reissue fee of $60 applies.

A TA/someone else may be better able to advise on what change would constitute a "TICKET REQUIRING ISSUE/REISSUE THROUGH SQ TICKET OFFICE" that the $60 would apply to.

Yeah, everything should be good, I don't plan on making any changes, and if I do, in the scheme of things, it won't cost the earth to have the changes made!

I sure will enjoy the flight!

So excited, wish it was tomorrow.

Thank you so much for all the input!

If you book online with SIA direct, you can use "Manage Booking" and then "Change/Cancel Booking" button on the left hand column to change the dates of your flight. This way, you avoid the "telephone" charges by SIA local office ;)

I have only done the change on my open jaw (365 days max stay tickets a couple in Y). I never had any problem (except during the busy period e.g. start/end of school holiday).

Still have a while to go yet!

So now I have plenty of time to save.. and figure out what I'm going to do.

Kind of a jump on a plane and see what happens kinda deal.

Getting bored of my 9-5 kinda life.

But would love to do a report, thinkin I'm gonna stick around these boards, there's always something to read/learn/share!
