Can anyone suggest a good cheap hotel (3 star - 4 star) in Singapore? Looking at doing a 7 day trip to Singapore in the new year, so any advice on good accommodation would be appreciated. I'm paying for this one so it won't be at the corporate 5 star!

Many thanks
JB

What do you define as cheap and what dates, frequent visitors to SIN are well aware of the rapid changes in rates when there is a convention in town, at such times $200 a night is cheap!

Yep, dates V important in Singapore.

I harp on about it, but Novotel Clarke Quay is good value for money! I have stayed there many times and keep going back. I have also stayed at a couple of other hotels that have passed the grade, one being Furama City Centre.

For personal trips I usually check Expedia website for the prices and then go to the hotel direct for the reservation...

Some of the hotels have a family and friends rate that is available if you know where to look, out of curiosity I took a look at a week in SIN using the IHG F&F rate:

Needless to say, the IC would be my choice at $135AUD for the night, a club room is an extra $50 a night.

As markis10 and munitalP said, prices can swing wildly with demand.

Another thing to look out for is those hotel prices with ++ rates. This is before tax & service charges and a number of booking sites in the region provide the prices before these and will catch a lot of people out when trying to compare prices - a good reason to use only the hotel chain sites when looking at prices.

I'm currently staying at the Novotel on the premier floor, and we're paying AUD250/night on a rate which was available to all from the Accor website. Nice property, reasonably located.

Royal Plaza on Scotts over on Orchard is another good one and very centrally located for the shopping and MRT access. Can't speak for the Hilton which is a block over from Scotts.

I can vouch for both the Royal Plaza on Scotts and the Intercontinental as being good hotels (Intercon can be surprisingly cheap on some dates, but check if the location works for you). Might both be on the expensive side if the dates are bad though!

The Conrad's also nice, but I don't remember ever seeing it going cheap.

stayed at Novatel Clarke Quay during F1 this year. booked premier room thinking it was the premier suite as had 3 of us, the 3rd being teenager sleeping on fold up bed, and they upgraded straight away onsite. at cost of course, but worth it. higher rooms are supposed to be much better. view was fantastic. facilties great and access to all areas of singapore was great.

If you have the time, it is worth bidding through Priceline.com. If you know what you want to pay, bid for "5 star" up to that price. You'll probably get 5 star for what you were going to get 4 star.

In the past I have been at Conrad Centennial for ~USD100/night.

Agree with intercon, good location as well

markis10,

Which web-site was that a screen shot of in your post above? And what is the IHG F&F rate and where do I find it?

Cheers

I concur that the Novotel Clarke Quay was great. We travelled with an 18month old, and the hotel and restaraunt went out of their way to accomodate

Markis10, How do you get the FF rate at IHG?

i need a night in Honkers shortly, will look here.

Print out thE voucher at the link, then have a look at the rates and book if OK, there is no need for anything else, just be aware they are prepaid and not changeable or points accruing.

You should have checked previous posts on AFF about the F1 as there were other AFF members staying there as well as the HI! Impromptu drinkies ;)

didn't think about that at the time.
good idea.
probably not going this year 2011, as want to do Korea/Japan at the end of the year.
but doing Malaysia/China in April.
Royal Bintang for Malaysia and Sofitel Hyland in Shanghai.
stayed at both of these many times before so don't need a review of them.

Oz-mark and I have discussed KL and Shanghai as well - well placed timing...

The Ibis on Bencoolen is a cheapish (at times) quality hotel in a good location.

It's nothing flash, but is a good stay. There are other threads on it on this site.
