Silk Air to be merged into SQ brand

Wonder if this will result in the Silkair FAs training being just a little bit more polished than currently. The FAs are generally good but I think of them as SQs poorer cousins and it shows a bit when sitting in J.

Makes a lot of sense. Rescheduling flights involving the two was a PITA though they always delivered.
Never had a problem with MI service, could teach QF a thing or two how to promptly deliver J meals.

Really like this just for the *G benefits. Currently it seems SQ mainline will only fly PEK, PVG and CAN in mainland China so this would open things up for me a bit while earning *G.

Otherwise, merging MI into SQ seems to make sense given that SQ also has TR to run routes that can't justify the full SQ service. As long as the narrowbodies are upgraded to a similar standard as the rest of the SQ fleet (lie flat beds an obvious exception) then I can't see any major downsides.

So it seems many of SilkAir's thinner/ leisure routes are going to Scoot with the transfer of 14 737s.

From SilkAir to Scoot:
• Luang Prabang and Vientiane in Laos, in April 2019
• Coimbatore, Trivandrum and Visakhapatnam in India, between May 2019 and October 2019
• Changsha, Fuzhou, Kunming and Wuhan in China, between May 2019 and June 2019
• Chiang Mai in Thailand, in October 2019
• Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia, in December 2019
• Balikpapan, Lombok, Makassar, Manado, Semarang and Yogyakarta in Indonesia, between May 2020 and July 2020

17 of their 49 destinations according to Wikipedia.

Given the list somewhat surprised that places like Penang, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap are moving to SIA given the relatively short distances.

SQ used to operate to Penang before MI took over, so back to SQ(uare 1)?

Go back far enough, and SQ operated narrow body aircraft! (I know, I have flown in an SQ 737 -although it may have been a few years ago!)

Me too. 2004 from memory.

Sad that CNX is going to Scoot. I've done that route a few times and MI has been ok. I'm flying that route again in a few weeks.

Like wise flown the SIN-CNX route a few times and it allways seemed full, I thought this would be one route to begone SQ.

Just noticed on the MI website that it will be discontinued from 31 March, and integrated into the SQ website:
SilkAir Redirection

Message with the redirection:
As this website has been integrated with the Singapore Airlines website, all SilkAir bookings and online check-ins will be seamlessly managed on singaporeair.com.
We look forward to serving you there.

I found the MI "service" on a SIN to India route pretty poor.

The 737s sure had worn, outdated interiors that felt like something out of the mid 1970s.

My experience with MI was on multiple trips SIN-DAD-REP-SIN and SIN-CEB-DVO-SIN. Always found the crew approachable and often had discussions with the pilots during the ground turnarounds. On the final legs of the journeys they did have some variability given that the meals could have been loaded 12 hours before.

I guess some of the MI aircraft in ASP could be there for quite a while.

Aah yes. outdated = bad, new modern interiors = wonderful.

I usually find outdated = more legroom 🤣 Modern = cramped (by way of comparison QF fit 2 more rows of economy on their 738's vs Silk Air, but then again QF have had their 738's in their fleet a lot longer than MI)
