Hi all,

this is not an amazingly interesting thread. I just thought I would share with my fellow AFF members that at the moment I am absolutely sick of travel.

Due to work and other reasons I have enjoyed / suffered a lot of flight in the last few years. For most of them averaged, over the entire years, two hours of EVERY SINGLE DAY being airborne. Add airport time and you start to feel my pain. More than a month a year physically airborne....

I know there are many who travel even more, but I am just sick of it. I love airlines, aircraft, travel, flight. But I think I have overdone it. Am now in an endless cycle of travel with the main flight being SCL-SYD or vice versa. I now hate it. It would be different if Emirates flew it, and I could afford First. An Emirates A380 in First is now about the only flight I actually look forward too.

All this has come to a head because in a couple of days I do the SCL-SYD run again, and, just DON'T WANT TOO!!

AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry everyone, just crying out into the night blizzard...

It is interesting, my travel since June has dried right up and I am starting to miss it greatly.

I have no travel booked until after Christmas ... last week I nearly booked a weekend to Singapore for later this month but managed to restrain myself.

I feel your pain and have only done half your flying with about 370 hours in 2018, 2/3rds in Y. An international trip in every month except November.

I now find myself opting out of non essential travel and sending my colleagues where possible.

I’m sure the passion will return in 2019

I fear that when I don't fly, I too will miss it. But hard to fathom that at the moment. :)

I'll do a job swap with you for a year or two.....

I understand what you are saying ..I have often thought that enforced airline travel eg for work is never going to be as enjoyable as leisure flying.

I used to work with a world renowned professor/ medical consultant who just seemed to hop off one plane have a few days at home and then on to the next plane to attend a conference as key note speaker.... then next flight - around and around and around.

At first I thought that flying from Vienna to Beijing then on to some gig in Toronto or NY would be SO exciting, but I realised that the novelty wears off eventually.

Slowly I understood why for his own personal annual leave, he would spend a couple of weeks in a ‘rustic’ bush or beach shack in his home state.

Swap work flying with family travelling - it's the best antidote for your issues.

"Work" does not pay for my travel - I do - looking for it, in third-world ****-holes. You still want to swap?

The vast majority of my travel over the past 6 years has been self funded for either work or pleasure. I’m not in a corporate environment where I have travel paid for on my behalf.

Completely understandable. I reckon even a die-hard aviation enthusiast would struggle if the ability to choose any of their travel -- destinations, time, and airline -- is eliminated.

I've been pretty lucky the past 3 or 4 years that my travel for various work roles has come in spurts (as leisure travel does too, naturally). So I'll have a concentrated fortnight or so with multiple flights but then go a month or two with nothing - meaning I'm well and truly ready.

That said, my last series was mainly Emirates and First Class. Followed up by two trans-Tasman J Qantas flights. On the A330s which I usually enjoy. These flights I found everything irritating and uncomfortable onboard -- I couldn't wait to get off. But also the airports and the NZ lounges.

Hope things improve for you soon.

Flying to LHR in J on QF 1 tomorrow....after the Syd F lounge, it is all downhill. coughpy J seat with very average food and drink, no EK F lounge in Dxb for a midnight steak and French red, can't sleep on board, jetlag and cold miserable weather in London! ...I'm not overjoyed with this work trip. To make it all bearable, I'm taking a week of leave to spend in Bordeaux and Paris before coming home :)

amaroo, that is spot on - I still enjoy travelling with family - really looking forward to a simple trip BNE - CBR in the new year to settle in daughter in uni. They dont travel much now, so they enjoy it, and that rubs off on me :)

Your SCL-SYD is like the average person's daily train grind Penrith to Town Hall, it's what you have to do to get to/from work to pay the bills.

What you need is the Stargate portal.

But Penrith to Town Hall doesn't include days of time/change, jetlag :(

You've never done the Penrith to Town Hall in late January... ;)
I sort of feel Juddles’ pain. I did Trans Tasman weekly for about two years inY, then very little for about 8 years, then TT 2 to 3 times a month typically with an 3 or 4 domestic AU legs for about 18 months. It’s enjoyable for a while then I went off it. My ideal would be a trip a month, not a trip a week.

Juddles, a few things here:
1. I also hate it. Although, I am not exactly sure if our hates are the same. Do you hate the actual flying? I am OK with the flying, I just hate being away from my home life (there was a time though where I did not have a home life of substance, so being away was ok). Can I suggest that you establish a different family in both cities; that is probably a sensible, compromise position?
2. You can actually fly Emirates A380 first class, but you need to fly EK 777 in First on the SCL-DXB leg and then DXB-SYD First on the A380 after that. It only takes 39 hours.
3. You should really change things up a bit. Did you know that LATAM fly this great route from SCL-Easter Island-Tahiti on a Dreamliner just twice per week. Do that, and stop at Easter Island and/or Tahiti for a couple of nights. Then jump on the flight to Sydney via Auckland or via Noumea. C'mon, are you really trying?
4. Alcohol and drugs. Works for most.
