For those heading to DFW, sounds like shower access is rarer than oil given the weekend letter in the SMH:

Showers in short supply
Having just flown from Orlando to Dallas Fort Worth, I was looking forward to a shower before my long-haul Qantas flight to Australia. But there are only three showers for all the shared lounges. There is no waiting in comfort for the next available, you need to line up in the corridor.
The gentleman ahead of me kindly cleaned the shower after he finished.
In his words, the "passenger before me must have been rather hirsute". But I suppose I was fortunate because the towels ran out at 7pm, so no need to worry about shower cleaning from there on.

Timely post as I should have several hours to kill there in a month's time.

It seems QF has contracted The Club at DFW which appears to be just along from the D A/C. (The Qantas Club Lounge locations in North America) QF8 departs from Terminal D.

Of course, this neglects to mention the showers available in the four Admirals Clubs at A, B, C, & D terminals.

Entry for QF PAX is based either Status or Class of service (based on oneworld lounge access rules).

I know from experience that they should call you in these A/C when a shower is available. All terminals (and, hence, the A/C's) are readily accessible airside, either by the "Skylink" train or walking.

...as serfty says, try the Admirals Club...

Admirals Club: Dallas D Shower - squirts from all angles

Love the all angle spray! Admiral's Club it is for me next month then. Especially after a stuffy day in mid summer Texas!

Are the terraces lounges available?
Access to this by seems to have been problematic (described in anecdotes on FT by AAdvantage (Exp/)Platinum), unless on a BA flight.

It seems it is an "associated lounge" and not subject to normal oneworld access rules.

Is the Terraces Lounge a former lounge no longer operating? According to the oneworld web site, BA operates:

Executive Club Lounge
Location details: Terminal D, airside near Gate D21
Opening hours: Daily: 15:00-21:00

However, the BA web site says:

Dallas/Fort Worth - Third party lounge

It's most definitely a third party lounge; see here: DFW / Dallas Fort Worth BA "Executive Club" Contract Lounge (consolidated)

MODERATOR'S NOTE

Note the DFW Terminal D BA Executive Club lounge (also a Priority Pass lounge) is operated by a third party for BA (and others) and is not a lounge oneworld elites should expect admission to unless they are BA elites or flying BA.

Why would Qantas contract a 3rd party lounge when all those A/Cs are available?

I have been to the AA Lounge opposite C20 on several occasions. I think there are 4 shower cubicles (good ones too) and I have never had to wait to use them. A couple of months ago when there, I was the only one using the shower and that was about 10am.

I can think of a couple of (possible) reasons:

Here's two [Conjecture only]:
  • Open bar prior to QF international flights; while drinks are "complementary" for eligible QF PAX in the A/C's there is still the bar tender/tipping to contend with.
  • Having this lounge facility available costs QF less than sending PAX to the A/C's.

Same goes for food. AC at Terminal D only has very basic nuts/pretzels available, all other food is for purchase.

Obviously QF are going to want to use a lounge within Terminal D and not have to send their premium passengers to another terminal (even though it reasonable painless to go between terminals). The AC is the biggest lounge in Terminal D but as you note, drinks are via bar tender with or without the free chits, and food is scarce, so not really up to the QF standard for an international J lounge.

Ahh yes ... food ... That's a major difference!

Anything reasonably substantial needs to be purchased in the A/C's.

Does anyone know what food is available? The website says:

Does the lounge provide any refreshments?
Complimentary refreshments are available to all guests and include light snacks, bottled water, juices, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages. In addition, individuals can pick up food from one of the dining establishments within Terminal D and bring it with them into the lounge.

Doesn't sound like much is on offer?

I should know in a month's time.

FWIW, I would expect that Qantas has arranged for additional food to be catered before and specifically in regard to the Qantas flight. (This happens with the T4 A/C at LAX prior to QF16/QF26.)

One more fact to consider is the the operating hours are noted as from 08:00 to 18:00 daily. and Qantas.com advertise 18:00-22:00 so I would expect the lounge is only available to QF PAX in the hours before the 10pm flight.

I am confident this is the same place since the same contact telephone numbers can be found on the respective web sites.

I was in this lounge on the last DFW flight out (just arrived here in Syd this morning) - to be honest, the food was not spectacular at all. There were 3 small plates of triangle sandwiches (no crust), 2 small hot plates with some sort of roast chicken stew and a roast beef stew thing.....the token soup as well...and then a whole lot of little crackers and odds and ends all in little multi packs and individually wrapped as you would expect in the USA (the cheese was cheddar only as well). The spirit bottles on the shelf above were empty......they had Lindemans wine (only 2 varieties of red and white), no bubbles and fridges full of small cans of soft drink etc. There was a printed sign saying spirits were available, however there were hardly any (as I said...empty bottles mostly) and few staff to be found. I went to the Admiral's lounge for a shower first. The lady at the front desk (of Admiral's) suggested I go to the Qantas lounge instead for a shower, but I declined ( I mean...who can resist the whole multispray in the admirals showers).

To be honest I found the lounge inferior to those in Oz and elsewhere overseas, but at least there was some free food unlike Admiral's lounge nuts, cookies and apples etc.
