I have a 50 minute connection in Doha between flight from Amsterdam and then onto Bangkok. Both flights on Qatar and on same ticket. Is this too tight of s connection?

You may make it, but I would have left at least 90 mins. You'd best hope your flight isn't delayed from Amsterdam.

I booked it on Qatar airlines site so would assume they allow such a tight connection!

All of my (3) Qatar flights were on time. I think they will look after you if you are late as its one ticket. When's the next one to BKK if you miss it?

Could always call one of their aust ticketing offices, if it was mis ticketed you shouldn't be paying any change fees

If its on time from AMS, you'll be ok. Transfer security is quite quick when I went through in March. I originally had a 1hr 30min connection, but delayed from MEL left me with about 40 minutes. Made it through and to my departure gate in about 25 to 30 mins.

The MCT at DOH is 45 mins for online connections, so it's legal, just not ideal.

On one ticket they are obliged to help you rebook on to the next flight for no charge.

Yep, and it would seem the next flight is only 6 hrs later to BKK.

Given that it's a single daily service from AMS to DOH, I'd take the risk - on a single ticket - on the short connection. If you book the longer connection - you'll be stuck with 6:50 in DOH for sure. If you book the shorter connection, there's a pretty good chance you'd make the connection, and if you miss it, well you'll be stuck with the 6:50 connection (minus whatever delay there is). Given the next flight is an A380 (I assume, but may depend on day of travel) there's a very good chance you'd get onto that flight.

I think you might be in trouble here. I landed in Doha at 1am on Monday and as I was going to immigration I passed the security queue for transit. It was absolutely monstrous. YMMV but i think there's a very real chance you'd struggle to get through and be rebooked on the later flight. I particularly say this as a colleague had a similar length connection two days prior and had been given no priority access to the security queue. He missed his flight and had a very unhappy 23 hr wait for his connection.

If the connection is missed, does anyone know if OP would be put up in the Transit Hotel given the gap is 6.50 hours?

In September we had a 70 minute connection at Doha with no issues. We arrived from Paris at 0550 with our Singapore departure at 0700. Even had time to pop into the Doha Lounge for a glass of Krug! We didn't have to go through any "Transit security queue" - just left our gate, walked into the lounge then reboarded at a different gate.

Obviously if your flight is late then there will be an issue, but I found Qatar to be very efficient. We were in J, so got off the plane first. Could be a problem if you are in Y and stuck down the back.

Good luck.

Does transit security depend on your origin? Didn't go through when arriving in DOH from LHR. Did from PER.

I did originally have 25 minute connection due to flight change, called Qatar who changed me to next flight to BKK which now gives me the current 50 minute connection. I am travelling in J so hopefully can get off quickly and get to flight. Have connection in BKK on Bangkok airways flight to Krabi and would miss this flight if I do not make my connection in Doha....here's hoping stars all line up! Not sure if I have to clear security in Doha.

Not sure how you managed to avoid transit security. Priority passes are available, but , even then, you would have had to go through transit security to get to the lounge. Albeit, it is only hand luggage screening.

For the OP, there is this on the DOH website. Something to keep in mind. May not lead to getting to your connection, but worth remembering. Scroll down a little to the "short connections" section.

In economy, we had a 55min connection flying in from TXL and onto MEL. We had to walk from one pier to another, and the whole process took ~35mins. We got to the gate when they had just started to board Economy for the MEL flight. Plenty of time, especially in J. Hamad Airport is not that big compared to some others. Security is quick as well.
