Liked the Shanghai to Brisbane 20 day cruise Aug next, booked a deluxe balcony cabin on the beautiful Majestic Princess (2017), stops Korea, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Singapore, Darwin, half at sea, price AU$5600 for two plus US$300 onboard per cabin credit, a bargain.

Flight over on MU new A350 in J+ using QFF points.

Sounds wonderful. Just checked the prices online and they are a bit higher than your fare, did you book through an agent?

What's new? I am. Never been on a cruise.

"whats new" means the high prices we pay in OZ for cruises, airfares, TV 's, cars etc. etc.

We have done approx 100 int. flights over past 4 decades, yet our first cruise was Montreal to Boston last Oct, now we are sold, unpack once, enjoy new places, food, entertainment and good company.

What agent in the USA did you use ? As I have had quotes from the States in the past and with the exchange rate they always come out more expensive.

VtoGo are quite professional but it's not necessarily apples to apples as some charges that are included in au quotes may not be included ex US

Mmmmmm, the last cruise I booked, ( Celebrity)I got a price from Vacations, just for curiosity, exactly the same category and asked them to include ALL taxes, and they came In quite a bit more expensive, got all the same add on’s as my TA except Vacations gave me a extra $ 25 obc, I did a booking with them many years ago and with the exchange rate in reverse than it is now we booked the cruise with them, we have done over 25 Celebrity Cruises and I always get a price off them, one off any another agent and my agent will always beat it , but like I said previously will give Vacations a go if they can come to the party ,,you enjoy the cruise.

Sounds like a great price. Again you show the importance of shopping around and comparing before booking. Sometimes I'm lazy and just go through the cruise line site but other times I do the full research thingy. :p

We sure did shop around and while we prefer spending our hard earned in OZ found a fare with Vacations to Go we couldn't pass up, they were quick with answers to our questions and provided a mountain of info by phone and email.

When we looked a month ago at this cruise we found the balcony cabins were cheaper than inside!, within a few days they disappeared, we thought it was a mistake fare?. VTG kept us in the loop and came back last week and advised us its near back to what it was and also we get $300 on board credit, we then looked on line and also contacted a few cruise agents here but could not get within a mile of VTG price.

I'd heard that Viking never does deals with TA's other than they give OBC and that certainly seems the case! A big fat 0% discount.

The cruise Shanghai to Brisbane or Sydney Aug 2019 price is on the way back up $200 on VTG for those interested.

Thanks for starting this thread. I hadn’t thought of doing a cruise like this until I read it here, although not ready to go this year. I have now booked the Majestic Princess from Hong Kong to Brisbane in 2020. We were looking for somewhere new and a chance to have lots of sea days to relax. This is why I like AFF for expanding my knowledge of what is available. I have also signed up with a new credit card for Qantas points to help with the one way flight to Hong Kong.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Yes about half at sea rest in ports, suits us too, like to relax and enjoy meeting people from all over. In our acse weknow 2 coples in Shanghai so they are going to show us around during the 3 full days (4 nights) we have there before departure on Majestic Princess.

Looking forward to the flight on new MU A350 in F (they call it J+) with its benefits, was 114k QFF points and a mere $100 in fees each, a bargain.

Yes we have the Qantas Amex Ultimate card, 100k sn up ecah and once 11 referrals at $30K each, we had nice CX J trip to USA and Canada on that!.

We read some very poor and long reviews by various Aussies on that cruise and cancelled out.

We did very similar itenery on Celebrity Constalation and couldn’t fault it, never mind eh , you win some lose some, sometimes you have to do it yourself as lots of reviews can get confusing, good luck next time.
