Hi - would appreciate some advice - is it possible to select a seat on a VA flight booked on SQ (with a SQ flight number)? I am in the process of booking a SQ international flight with a domestic leg on VA. SQ website will not allow selection of a seat on the VA leg.

Can I use the VA website, and what info would I need? Or can I call VA? Or do I just take pot luck at the airport?

Apologies if asked before (all my searches turned up the opposite scenario).

Thanks.

Haven't tried that specific scenario, but usually it's possible by calling the airline direct even when not possible online. As it's a business class booking, they should accommodate.

If you apply your Velocity number into the SQ booking you may see the Virgin flight segment when logging into Velocity with the PNR / booking reference. You call Virgin/Velocity and then quote the PNR / booking reference number to select seating.

If you don't see the flight segment when logging into Velocity, call SQ in Australia and they will supply. You call Virgin/Velocity and then quote the PNR / booking reference number to select seating.

Thanks for the info. Will give it a go.

Booked on SQ an SQ international flight, with VA domestic leg (VA flight number) on one ticket. Seat selection for the VA flight not available as anticipated.

Called SQ at midnight AEDT - got straight through (low status but perhaps being Business helped -- just as fast as I get through to QF as a P1). Gentleman advised me what seat VA had pre-allocated to me. I asked for a different, specific seat. He was initially unsure he could help, but on checking told me it was available, then he made a request. I was ready to end the call but he told me to wait as he wanted to make sure it was confirmed. 10 seconds later he said it had been accepted.

Expertflyer seems to confirm it, as does the manage booking page on SQ. Time will tell if it really does 'stick'.

But happy with the service. And for others' reference, did not require any calls to VA. Perhaps that's a result of flying J?

Check what it says online on the VA website. That should be your source of truth - if it just asks you to select a seat, you'll have to ring VA.

Will I need a VA booking reference for that? (Despite advice above, I didn't ask for a specific VA reference).

Yes you will. If you have the ticket number, that might also suffice. However getting the VA reference may be easier as you can check online. Both will require a call to VA in the end anyway to select a seat if required.
