Hi,

I booked using UA points on TG going MEL-BKK-DPS-BKK-MEL in J (why go direct right?). MEL-BKK are 777s, flight was good. For BKK-DPS, both of which are 747s when choosing my seat, I noticed that I was able to grab 1A on the inbound and 1E on the outbound, both of which are F cabins. Now, the meals and drinks offered were the same as in J, but is this normal? Does TG open up its F seating at a certain point before the flight? The trip was booked super last minute, I booked it within the 24hr check in window, but the return seat was chosen 7 days out.

I have a second upcoming trip in 30+ days HKG-BKK on a 747 where the F seats do not appear on the seat selection. Anyone know the go, as I'm absolutely delighted to take F seats if and when they become available!

Thanks!

Presumably because they sell F on HKG-BKK flight, but not on the DPS flight.

On international 2-class flights where TG uses the 747 they may open the F cabin for J pax, with J service. If they intend to do this you can reserve seats as soon as you book.

On some 2-class flights TG doesn't intend to use the F cabin and it will be blocked and go out empty (happened on a BKK-PVG flight a couple years ago).

As dajop mentioned, for HKG TG sells three classes.

Bummer, it was a great experience and I was hoping for a little more F time. Thanks for the replies guys, most appreciated.

They flew a 747 to melbourne for a few weeks ago earlier this year. Coupled with the new long-haul J service (no trays, champagne flutes etc) it was pretty close to F.
