Seat selection has been restricted on this flight as most seats have already been assigned.

Received this message when I went into view the seat map and select a seat directly on the Emirates site. I booked through QF and did a seat selection from the QF site.

The advantage of using the Emrates site is that on the last flights it gave me (QF Gold) access to select their up-sell economy seats.

Anyone have any background on this message and if I"m likely to see it open up over the next week.

How long until the flight?

If it's in the next 24 hours, perhaps you've been given an op-up?

This same thing recently happened to me in similar circumstances trying to get seat allocation on Qantas site for code share flights. I called Qantas, remarkably unhelpful, but did get my Emirates PNR from them - this was nowhere obvious on my Qantas e-ticket. Then I called Emirates and there was no problem at all with seat allocation. This was a paid J Class ticket.

The Emirates PNR should be listed in your QFF “Manage my booking”. Usually mentioned in the “seat preferences” section

Thanks for the feedback. I think the system was just a bit confused, I was within 24 hours of my original flight which I had changed also within the 24 hour window before departure.

When I go to Emirates site today, I can access the Preferred Seating -Complimentary. A small benefit but better than being in 88C which was the default issue.
