Seat map prior to booking?

Hi all,
I am just wondering, is there anyway to see seat maps for someone with QF Gold prior to booking? I am interested in flying to Bali to see friends in mid-late February on QF45 & QF46 with Mrs wanderlust_tim. However, as it is a 737-800 we only want to book if we can select the seats up front which have the guaranteed shadow given the load restrictions on the plane.

Alternatively, does anyone know how much a comfort seat would cost?

Any thoughts?
Cheers

Comfort seats cost the fare - none of the +++.

BTW, can't you do dummy booking and select seats without completing the booking?

Thanks! How silly of me, i completely forgot about that.

Are there still seat restrictions on this route? Looking at the seat map all middle seats appear bookable.

No such thing as a guaranteed shadow. If the flight's full, those shadows will be filled with organic matter just like the rest of them.

MEL- DPS on a 737, heh, ouch would be a painful sardine can flight, ... that is the max that the 737 can go, can't it.
If for eg there needs to be an airport to pick up more fuel towards the end of the flight to Asia, how far further in Indonesia that the 737 can go, I can see what there would be a weight limit, of pax/freight.
Thought that QF wouldn't dare to put a 737 on such a longish flight routing MEL - DPS.

So I called up QF to ask these questions as well. The agent had no idea about the blocked seats question and was insistent it wasn't a thing and that rows 4-8 were blocked in their entirety for Platinum 1 etc. Unless how QF have changed their rules since I last flew, I would say she is talking out of her hat.

I also asked for a quote for the comfort seat and was advised that the return fair was $555 with an additional $425 for the comfort seat. Does that seem high? Or about right?

If the fare for 1 PAX is $425 with $130 in +++ (total $555) then that is about right.

Okie dokie thanks for confirming, I appreciate it. I think we might have just roll the dice and cross our fingers that the blocked seats appear in the manage my booking section, or that loads are low enough that we get a shadow.

I believe Qantas used to block the middle seats in the first 3 rows on selected DPS-SYD flights (that route and direction only) at some point. They are no longer doing this.

I'm not surprised that the Qantas agent had no idea what you were talking about - why would they? She probably thought that you were talking out of your hat ;)

Based on this it seems that I was. Thanks for clarifying. I really appreciate it.

I think they still do it on the outbound (SYD-DPS) unless there has been a very recent change. I flew it in Nov and the F lounge agent even said they block the middle seat on the first few rows and that was the case. It would have been a lot emptier had we not waited for some delayed connections.

However, on the outbound (DPS-SYD) it was completely full and not a flight I would rush to do again. Surely J is not much more than a comfort seat?

Interesting. It does however appear that they have stopped doing this now on SYD-DPS.

A bit of a moot point anyway, as this route is reverting back to an A330 service at the end of March. :)
QF SYD-DPS going A330 from 31MAR19
