How do QF rules work when using cheap Y (Red eDeal) fares?

It seems difficult to get seats forward of about row 19. Even when booking weeks ahead an in very off-peak flights.

QF Club membership used to mean you'd always be offered forward Y cabin seats, right behind J class, but does the "get to the back of the bus, cheapskate" Red eDeal rule now trump the QF Club rule?

I am fairly sure what you are seeing here are the status zones being enforced. You may see the seat map open up much closer to the date.

As for QP membership, you have a lot in front of you in terms of the pecking order...

Nothing to do with the fare, purely status. Gold only get from row 11 at booking, so I imagine QP falls behind that.

I buy the cheapest red e-deals possible and pretty sure I can pre-allocate 6D ~98.7% of the time and 4D at T-80 ~90% of the time.

In my experience most people don't care where they sit as I can still allocate 4C/4D well after T-80 has passed.

Interesting, can never get anything that far forward, obviously I'm not flying enough!

It's been a long time since Qantas club gave anything approaching forward seats.
JohnK is most likely a platinum qantas frequent flyer, which is why he can get such seating.

But do check seating 80 hours before your departure time, you never know what will pop up. ;)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

At T-80 seats further forward for P1 & P which aren't filled are opened up for G to shift forward. This works on most flights especially on weekends BUT forget any weekday flights to/from Canbera or Syd-Melb at peak business travelling time.
