Is there an easier way to find classic reward seats than using the Qantas website? I'm looking for J seats Melb to Rome, and I find the only way is to search day by day by day..... over and over, scanning for which one world airlines have availability. My dates are very flexible so is there another website or tool one can use to put in a date range and search for J class seats on any airline with QF points? Or is that just wishful thinking and I'll just have to slog it out on Qantas clunky web interface searching one day at a time?

Ideally I'm after Cathay Pacific fares using QF points but can't find much availability. But Emirates or Qatar will do nicely as well.

Have a look at Award Nexus (awardnexus.com). You can construct award searches and save them. It also has alerts. There's a free version and a more feature rich paid for option.

The KVS Tool is another useful tool. You have to pay for it, but you can input any search criteria you like and the tool will keep searching in the background until it finds a flight/s that suits.

In addition to KVS, expertflyer is another paid service, although neither are probably needed for this specific situation. Since any MEL-FCO flight will involve a connection you be much better searching for MEL-HKG/DOH/DXB and HKG/DOH/DXB separately, changes of finding flights this way are much much higher.

If you're specifically looking for flights on Cathay I'd suggest opening an Asia Miles account, which is part of their award program. On Asia Miles you can search for flights on Cathay, Qantas, BA and Qatar and you can just look week by week and it's much less clunky. You didn't say when but a random search for HKG-FCO in a month found at least some J awards available each day, either the direct or xLON. Shouldn't be too hard to find a QF/CX flight up to HKG to connect.

Searching for 2 pax MEL-LHR in J in November 17 - give you one guess for which airline has NO availability?

Yeah, go on. I bet you all said Qantas.......
Well you are WRONG! In fact, on 2/11/17 Qantas is the ONLY carrier showing availability in J ( and F, for that matter) out of all the usual suspects Qatar, Cathay, Emirates, BA etc.
So there!

Is there any that just ignores flights in Economy when you're searching for J rewards -eg your flight from ADL to DUB in economy but you pay the same as if it was J all the way

Maybe change your search to different cities- try MEL to HKG as one flight then HKG to Europe, I did that early this year and scored 2 x J awards all the way. Quite a few options for awards on cathay when you start in HKG I found.

You can set the [Filter] in the KVS Tool that will require C Award Availability on all segments (and remove mixed-cabin options).

Filters can also be used in conjunction with the [Power Search] function that Mattg mentioned above.

At risk of hijacking this thread.....

Mrs C and I are looking to burn some of our points with some F travel. I'm planning outbound on QF F A380, inbound on EK F A380.

When we look on the QF site, there's no availability for the flights we want to try on EK anywhere near the dates we want (we want ca. 2/1/18, QF most recently shows 10/12/17). However, if I look at the Emirates Skywards site, I can see the flights and dates I want.... except I don't have any Skywards miles.

Is this a situation where I ring QF and ask for the flights 'cos I can't seem them in the QF booking engine? I'm WP and am looking somewhere around 350 days out. Do I wait till T-340 and hope the Emirates flights appear in the QF site?

Following advice here in the tutorials, I have grabbed my outbound F awards for the flights I want (I did select and book outbound at 10:01am on the day they became available). And that's the other thing: if I do a dummy book outbound/inbound return, I have choices for the return flight (not what I want, but QF gives me *some* choices). But looking only for one-way inbound (having booked outbound already), there's no availability on the same dates as a return ticket offers.

{confused - a points redemption newbie :shock: !)}

Anat0l stared a thread here on this le topic ... find that and oyster your world may be ...

Rogue One you went to see; then came home and
watched "New Hope" you did.......

Yes, thanks serfty, I did read that whole thread, I had joined Skywards and BAEC (country set as Austria). Unfortunately, Emirates is not part of any alliance, so their flights only come up on QFF and their own site. I must see what points i've got warehoused in old Amex and DC cards to see what I can transfer to Skywards.

Doesn't the "flexible with dates" option in the QFF booking engine show you the availability you seek over a 4 week period?

Yes, it does. That's how I'm jumping back and forth. Outbound from MEL, I can select flights up to31/12/2017, but inbound from DXB, I can only see flights up to 14/12/2017. I must correct myself: last night I could see awards flights DXB-MEL on 31/12/2017 on Emirates' Skywards, but just now it has "synced" with QFF and there are only flights DXB-MEL as far out as 14/12/2017. That's why I'm wondering if there was a different booking window (ie T-353 outbound, T-333? inbound).

Is anyone else having issues searching for reward availability on their mobile? It seems to me Qantas changed their site recently and I can’t seem to get to the page to search Classic rewards nor to the page that shows the 1month availability. Seems to work fine on a computer but not my mobile which it always used to. Any help on a work around would be great.

Cheers

I avoid using my mobile to search for flights - way too inefficient. (I often have several windows open at the same time showing results from ExpertFlyer, Award Next, Carrier award search etc.)

Just ring Qantas. They are able to quickly search across many airlines and different dates and airports. If it costs you a few dollars for their help, it's worth it to cut out all the hassles. ( I still do my initial searches online, but in the end always phone them for the final award bookings.)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Seeing the same on my iPad. There is no longer a ‘flexible with dates’ tick box.
