My mistake …. typed in wrong start date for family pooling by one day.

I thought I'd re-made Platinum on one day this month, and all flights from the day after were to be credited toward my wife's requalification. Was overseas, so screwed up start date advice by 1 day, due to jet lag, and foreign time zone and stupidity for not triple checking the start date instead of relying on memory!

Typed the wrong date by one day. 240 SC involved, so not small beer sadly.

In the experience of those here will Velocity agree to adjust them if advised fast? Flights do not even show up in account yet so maybe there is a day or so grace period in cases of genuine error? I've been a Velocity Plat for probably 10 years now, so maybe that counts a little? (Lord knows there are precious few Plat bennies left these days!)

i.e. not looking for extra SC or anything, just the ones from day earlier than I nominated to stay in my account, and not go to wife, only the several flights the next day were to be pooled to her.

Thanks in advance for any input. :D

Little chance IMHO.

Two or so years ago Velocity really tightened up with family pooling and canceled many accounts outright due to what they considered excessive swapping - from that time they appear to have been intransigent.

All I can say is good luck!

I really don't know what Velocity will say, but I don't see any reason not to call them right now rather than waiting for replies on here.

I agree it's unlikely they will show any lenience here, but did they really cancel accounts due to "excessive swapping"? I thought it was more to do with people pooling to people who did not meet the criteria set out in the T&Cs (e.g. not living at same address etc).

About 3 weeks ago, I actually emailed Velocity to see if they could change the Review Date 2 weeks early as I was already re-qualified to WP, and I was considering flying with VA Y to HKG with family (which would get me 260SCs after family pooling). They said no.

I ended up flying CX Y instead.

OK, cancel may have been the wrong word, but they did suspend many accounts and advise they needed proof of eligibility etc.; without such proof being provided accounts were canceled.

Many were caught out with significant loss of points and, indeed, status.

What peeved a few was that since its inception there had been no apparent policing of the pooling terms. The suspension/cancelations were reported to have been done with no warning.

TBH, I can't see why there would be any justification for granting that request. It's not like this is an unusual situation - given the low threshold to retain Velocity Platinum, lots of people requalify well before the end of their membership year. At least Velocity offers other ways to avoid "wasting" the extra SCs - e.g. family pooling to your partner so they get status too.

Fair enough, but I think the key point is that the alleged transgressions were pooling to people who were ineligible, rather than swapping the pooling beneficiary (which is explicitly allowed, subject to certain rules). What the OP tried to do was absolutely within the rules (spirit and letter), so I don't think the crack down on breaching the T&Cs is really relevant. But as I said, I still doubt if Velocity will grant any leniency, so perhaps that's a moot point.

Thanks folks.

Yes am aware they had a blitz on this once.

I stress this is a partner who has been Plat before, same home address of course, and we have only pooled points among us now and again for many years - no other parties were involved in any pooling ever. :D

My mistake ….

Why should they accomodate your mistake? Sure you would have had plenty of time prior to the trip to check, check and re-check.

I understand flexibility when compassion etc is involved and when that happens no one acknowledges their good deeds.

Lesson learnt for next time.

'Talk about (an) epic FAIL!' by the OP!!!!

(it does take away the comedy value of the above statement if I have to note that it is in reference to another thread started by the same OP)

Never making small mistakes, must be a quite wonderful gift, that you are apparently blessed with.

For the rest of us mere mortals, I meant to add a note they were quite OK to adjust this back, as it was reported very fast, same day, and reporting it to the Platinum line might have given them a tiny bit more wiggle room too, who knows?

We also have an impeccable record re family pooling, and have only used it between us now and again, with no dozen different random "family members" being on the files at various times, as serfty alluded to above for some members! And I fully support them being tough on that.

WIN-WIN for Virgin as just booked $6,000 of Virgin Business Class flights so my partner can work towards Plat, and had they been inflexible on this, I'd not have bothered, so 6K less to them. Good to see a bit of common sense is still used at times.
