Hi all,

I'm in the US at the moment, and finding I have some time to kill thought I'd look for some cheap "upgrade" (KUP?) fares. There appears to be some options available.

It appears (based on previous threads here) that I might be able to book these online by saying that I'm a resident of the UK, and then being issued an eticket by email.

The only question becomes getting my QANTAS FF number into the booking. I should be able to do that at the counter at the airport shouldn't I? Just ask the agent to add my FF number when I get my boarding pass?

Cheers
AC

You can't enter you QF number into the AA booking engine. I just hand it over at the counter and remeber to save the ticket stub in case you need to claim the points later.

I have never tried booking via AA.com as a UK resident but have bought tickets as a Oz resident without a US credit card. Try selecting the UK resident button under the Advance Search on AA.com.

Have fun 'running' around the USA.

Been thinking of this myself. Was considering using points to get to HNL and then pick up discount first fares from there via aa.com, HNL-BOS with one or two stops both ways (about $2,000 US return for HNL-LAX-ORD-BOS return or similar) and then a BOS-MIA-POS in first/business (for about $1000 US return) - then buy the cheapo Deathstar HNL-SYD for about $400 AUS - that would give about 1200 SCs for about $4,000 AUS and get me to the two places I want to go for the price of a few nights stopping over both ways in HNL!

What happens if I miss a connection because of a late arriving flight mid journey - do they still honour first class or do I get dumped into the Y standby bucket?

You would have priority over AA elite upgraders, but don't risk it if you can.

With IRROPS you have a good chance of get "Original Routing Credit", but it's a hassle to do so.

Reduce your chances of having to deal with these by trying to ensure at least 90 minutes betwixt flights - 120 is better.

I flew into HNL on JQ late last year and missed my connection (although perhaps not strictly a connection as they were booked on separate tickets) with AA. AA were very helpful, in fact I think I remember the phone operator from AA saying "oh dear, let's see what we can do for you honey." I simply took a later flight, without penalty. Obviously, there was availability in P.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Lucky it wasn't the other way around - JQ wouldn't have been so helpful!

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies. I was able to buy the tickets online specifying UK as my country of residence (there appeared to be no checks on that). ETicket arrived about 20-30 minutes later.

At the airport I was able to have the checkin attendant add my QF number, and points and SCs were credited a few days later.

All good :)
