Hi All

I've just booked a Qantas JASA ADL-HKG-CDG(PARIS)-HKG-ADL for myself, wife and baby boy.

Booked using Qantas FF points but flying with Cathay Pacific as Qantas doesn't seem to fly to those destinations direct.

3 questions:

1. Will i earn status credits and FF points? Its on travel class U and from what i've read so far its a yes but would love it if someone could confirm.
Also, if i do earn SC and FF pts how much would i earn?

2. Also, tried seat guru but not sure the seating config for ADL-HKG (a330-300). Im assuming regional so the old business class with no bed? is that correct? seems to be a few different configs

3. What seats to recommend with an infant who will be 1 1/2 years old?

Thanks again

QF only offer SC and points on QF and JQ metal, your CX flights will not earn SC or points....in theory. CX don't do ADL HKG direct either, 104 goes via MEL.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

ASA can indeed be available with travel on 'selected' airlines as well: (Frequent Flyer - Using Points - Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Awards)
In addition, when booking a Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award, you can combine your Qantas or Jetstar flights with selected flights on other selected airlines for onward travel to other great destinations.*

* A limited number of seats on selected partner airlines (as offered by Qantas at the time of booking) may be combined with your Qantas or Jetstar flights in a Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award.

According to this you can earn status credits and points on certain airlines

Points and Status Credits may be earned on Qantas
& Jetstar Any Seat Awards for new bookings made on or after 23 March 2010.
See the Airline Earning
Table
for eligible flights and earning classes. Note: Frequent Flyer points
may not be earned on some fare types, or on some oneworld
alliance or airline partner flights.

The total points you earn depends on how far you
travel, your cabin class and your membership status. To see how many points you
could earn use our Earning Points calculator.

You should earn at the rates as per the table which form U Class J is 1,25 and based on my own experiences SC will be at normal rate as if on QF

Hope this helps

the "JASA" is booking into U which is not an earn class for CX.

CX104 does fly from ADL to HKG via MEL four times a week, but in addition to this, CX174 flies thrice weekly from ADL to HKG direct.

April onwards the CX timetable is indicating only 104 and via MEL as the only option for the days I did look at.

FWIW, I had a JASA BKK-HKG-PER, (originally BKK-SYD-BNE but rerouted due to a delay).
The BKK-HKG flight was with CX and did not earn points or SCs, but I did get original routing credit later.

Hi All

Thanks for the replies so far

Sorry i was typing it at 4.30am and its not a JASA but a Qantas and Partner Award booking in J.

Flight is cX174 out and cx105 home

Im aware that cx fly via melbourne but my understanding of these flights and the itinerary show direct flights.

So for Qantas Award flight bookings you do earn scs? Sorry still mixed replies fr
everyone. Doesnt really matter if i dont. Just would be good.

Thanks again everyone

Thanks for the clarification, its a partner classic award so no points etc applicable, as for the direct flight, I must have been looking at dates during the week when CX174 does not operate! Out of curiosity how many points were used, if you were on a JASA its often preferable not to go direct for the extra SCs and points, as well as the opportunity to sample the F lounge should you have access!

No QFF point/SC earning is supposed to happen with classic awards.

I guess if someone did somehow receive any, albeit 'accidentally', they would be unlikely to reveal so on a public forum.

Hi Markis10

So im confused but thanks for you replies so far. Im still a newbie to all of this so correct me where im wrong please and apologies for any silly questions and if they don't make sense.

Below is what i have booked and on the left it shows travel and booking class U.

Now on the following link under the ts and cs (Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Terms & Conditions) it states clearly that "Points and Status credits cannot be earned on Classic Award flights"
But then the below table shows booking class U on QF flights earn 50% bonus for flights after 17/05/11

You then scroll down further and CX doesn't list booking class U.
As per below ( i have merged the 2)
Airline
Eligible Booking Class
Cabin Class
Base Rate
Cabin Class Bonus - flights taken on and from 17 May 2011
Qantas (QF) International
U (when booked as an Any Seat Award only)*
Business
1
50%
Cathay Pacific Airways (CX), including Cathay Pacific Airways' affiliate Dragon Air (KA)
CDIJ
Business
1
25%
Status Credits are earned on all eligible booking classes.
Excluded: Points and Status Credits are not earned on joint venture flights or Codeshare Flights operated by airlines other than oneworld[SUP]®[/SUP] alliance airlines.

So im wondering what type of booking i have made and is there a difference between and any seat award booking vs a classic award booking. Or are they the same?

Thanks Serfty for your replies, but as per my next post im just confused as to whether i have booked a classic award or a any seat award due to the booking class i have been provided. Im assuming classic award in which this case you are correct and i earn ZILCH. But plenty of SC's up for grabs if i can potentially earn.

Also, i haven't received booking confirmation via email but it does show up in my bookings when i log into QFF website.

Anybody know how long usually this would take? Checked other posts going back a while and some say a day or two.

Thanks!

You have booked a partner classic reward which books into U which is not points or SC earning unless its a ASA booked on QF metal. ASAs can only be booked when travelling on QF and or JQ and on other airlines when there is a connection to that airline, in which case you might get booked into a fare bucket that does not earn anything. U class booking only pays points etc when its QF AND its boked as an ASA.

Its always worth looking at the true cost of a ASA after taking the points earn into consideration, in this case 20484 base miles and 560 SC would have been earned, along with cabin and status bonuses as applicable, had it been a JASA (and QF flew to CDG giving you points all the way).

Thanks Markis for clearing that up

Another question, i've read that i can change dates and just pay change fees when i do so. The only reason i ask is that i surprised my wife and she is saying that we may need to push it back to mid 2013. I can't book that far ahead but just wondering if thats possible but from what i've read it is.
