Hi all,
I'm visiting Moscow for 2 days next month and curious to hear recommendations of what SIM card I should purchase? And should I purchase it beforehand, or pick one up at the airport?

I only need data and would be happy with 1-2gb.

Many thanks!

BTW: I don't speak any Russian

I've always used MTS which is fine, couldn't give you a recommendation on where to purchase though because I usually get mine at a shop in the city. Good luck with not speaking any Russian in Moscow though! :)

The wonders of Google Translate (which I've learnt to NOT rely on in China! :) ) I'm assuming Google isn't blocked in Russia?

Thanks, I'll keep MTS in the back of my mind. :)

Google works fine. There is virtually NO English signage in the metro so it helps to at least to be able to read in Russian. Learning the Russian alphabet is relatively easy & will help you a lot! Despite the language issue, Moscow is a fantastic city!

P.S. If you're looking for a great central hotel to stay, I can recommend Mercure Arbat. Great customer service & excellent location right next to Smolenskaya Metro. ;)

Yeah I'd read that I shouldn't expect much english. It should be a fascinating city and I love history and politics so it should be a fantastic 72hrs. I'm booked to stay in Hotel Maroseyka 2/15 which looks very central so I'll probably walk everywhere, and catch taxis to and from the airport. I'll print off my hotel booking and flight references (in Russian too) and show them to the taxi driver.

Thanks again.

google has its hiccups knowing these hiccups means you can avoid translations mishaps. I have been able to conduct business without too many hiccups.
