Speaking to a lounge angel last night in Perth she stated that she had read that ALL A330 aircraft will be fitted with Skybed MK1 seats for all east - west flights by this time next year.

It was claimed to have been read in an internal announcemement and when I refered to AJ talking of a new J class for Asia she was adamant that ALL QF A330 aircraft would definitely be fitted out with MK1 Sky Bed's

Lets see what happens.

Personaly I dont mind the MK1 seat much better than hte current situation with the middle 3 abreast on some of the A330-300 series aircraft.

What do you think?

After the JASA debacle I'm a little dubious of anything anyone is told by QF frontline staff ;)

Does Mk1 fit with the current certification requirements? Otherwise you may indeed be looking at another product being introduced (hence lead in times etc)

It is wrong information. QF staff have been told it is a new design - it isn't like the Skybed. Nothing else has been revealed but they keep mentioning how it will be the first design used, so it will be different to anything else on the market right now.

This is what I thought too and still think is more likely to be what happens. I can not see them recycling old aircraft seats into the A330 300s or those coming back from Jetstar

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

All the 330-300's have skybeds already. It is the -200's which is the mix-a-seat.

AJ said a in February that the A330s were getting something that "leapfrogs anything our competitors are doing". Skybed MK1 doesn't fit that brief. And the upgrades won't begin until next year. This seems like one of those rumors that you hear from a pilot who says they're ordering 777s.

I do believe the wet leases will be announced soon re the 777s, no chance of new aircraft, the line is too long.

AJ has a history of making announcements that don't eventuate (RedQ anyone ?)... but if QF does ever manage to create a new domestic business class seat (and install it in a timely manner) it will need to be "horizontal lie flat" to meet his stated brief.

Skybed mkI (sloped) will almost match the current Virgin product IMO (pic below) - So the only question is, will QF be offering 1x2x1 with every seat having direct aisle access, or 2x2x2 with window seat passengers having to clamber over aisle passengers? My guess is 1x2x1, as they can't afford for Virgin to come to market (once they announce the new QF product specs) with something better.

So we can presume that Virgin is already drawing up battle plans for that eventuation, as they are unlikely to want to relinquish the mantle of best domestic business class.

Currently the QF A330-200 International config have Sky Bed MK1 fitted the domestic versions 6 of them have the 3 abreast seating

As the topic of this thread is still hearsay, I have updated the title to reflect the fact that it is not confirmed as the fact the title did in fact implied.
