Hello.

I wanted some advice about a round the world business class air fare I have found on www.bestflights.com.au. I have called them to discuss availability and routes/airlines which is relfected in the info below.

The airfare is $7035 in total for the following route:

- SYD>JFK (via SFO) on United
- JFK>LHR (via ZCH) on Swiss
-ZCH>HKG on Swiss
-HKG>SYD on Virgin Atlantic

I have never flown with these aircraft apart from United in economy on this actual flight. I still consider the United economy flight to be one of my worst but perhaps business class is more palatable.

I am stillplanning my European itinerary so I can fly into/out of other cities but given these sectors are with Swiss it will always be via ZCH.

I am flying in Aug/Sep and wanted to know what your thoughts are about money spent vs. airlines used. Would you pay this? Or (looking into your crystal balls) do you think a better deal may arise? I've never bought an airfare like this, so have no point of comparison. I realise this is subjective but any insight you can offer is appreciated.

Thanks, pw.

From what you've posted it doesn't sound anywhere near as flexible as a DONE4 or similar, but if they are the only places you want to visit, or you have an alternate means of transport in various countries then it is cheaper than a DONE, or the *A equivalent. Personally, I'd be using the Oneworld planning site and see how much that sort of trip will cost you, bearing in mind that you have the opportunnity to get to platinum status and fly in AA first domestically in the US, allowing maximum SC accrual and the opportunity to visit a few places.

Is ZCH meant to be ZRH (Zurich)???

Anyway, me personally, as i am not interested in SCs and company is not paying, would go for an award flight or two and get it for around $5000...

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, I meant Zurich.

Buying part of my flight is an option in theory but my points are with Singapore airlines where I am currently waitlisted for a booking to get me home. There is also no availability with a partner airline to get me to NYC.

I do like having flights settled so I can focus on planning my itinerary. In this case, I might just hold off for now and see what eventuates instead of jumping the gun.
