Just logged into QF site to see details of a flight in May and my status has been compt early

Still got 3 weeks to reach the 600, and would have achieved with booked flights

Would have been nice to be compt to platinum instead

I had a similar pop up for retaining silver even though I'm a few SC short - with my expiry being end of April. However the normal SC display thing still says I have xx SC required to retain PS so not sure what is going on..

Good for you to retain gold 240 SC short. I do feel this devalues it somewhat for folks who actually earn the SC's the hard way. This is not a complaint per se (I am way beyond SG) but more an observation that there seem to be quite a few instances reported recently of status being retained with quite a number of SC's short. I am sure QF sees this is a good way to retain a member, but it *must* make some members reading this stuff think"well hey, if they give SG on only 360 or 400 SC why should I aim for the 600 to requalify?"

anyway.. congrats on retaining gold :)

interesting, they maybe seeing a bit more 'fluidity' in people's booking patterns and want to keep them focused on getting to plat rather than being gold in both programs

They'd keep that focus on achieving plat by not diluting the WP benefits to SG level (eg PB).

Did you miss the bit where he said he has enough flights planned that he would have earned it anyway doing it the hard way? Also we have no idea what the OP's part travel patterns or spend has been. His planned flights aside Qantas don't do this for everyone, they must have some sort of algorithm that targets those that it sees as worthy for commercial reasons. Hardly devaluing. If everyone then yeah you might have a point.

Their system considers forward bookings within 6 weeks of your membership year. The real question is: If you cancelled all your forward bookings, would you still be given SG?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Actually yes, I did miss that part about the planned flights.

To Spongbob - did you not read my entire post where I suggested *I* do not really have an issue with it. I was simply pointing out that it seems a number of posters on AFF in recent times have commented on retaining SG in this way (let me rephrase - QF granting it) - SOME people (not me) may feel that if this is something that happens on a somewhat routine (and no, I have no way of knowing if it does or doesn't only based on anecdotes on a FF website) basis that it devalues, somewhat, the worth of Gold.

I'm not jealous or envious or annoyed per se. I think it's great for thoe that get it, specially with forward bookings to justify that faith from QF (so yes, that does make sense, and yes, I missed that from the OP). I was pointing out that some folks may feel it to be unfair if it's more common than not, but obviously QF do have their metrics and algorithms - but also as we've seen with seemingly random applications of SC promos and the like it may be less scientific than it appears :)

peace out and enjoy the glitter

I think you'll find the applications of comps and promos are, in fact, very scientific.

QF knows your worth, and determines comps in order to secure potentially lost revenue.

It doesn't affect me, I really don't care.

I got comp recently but i suspect QF took into account my many years (20) of support rather than forward bookings (null).

Pretty sure my comp was forward bookings would have qualified me anyway

Agree, except that qantas doesn't know your worth at all and these analytics are all screwing up their CRM which in turn means revenue is being left on the table as they piss off customers at the same time.

I meant your worth as your worth to them.

I meant your worth as your worth to them.

Perceived value to them - without ALL the facts is a false calculation which ultimately leads to poor decisions.

I mean, imagine how you'd be treated if the loyalty program actually knew more about you - what other airlines you flew, how much you paid for those tickets, WHY you purchased tickets on competing carriers, how many credit card points you have warehoused at the bank, what drove you to make purchase decisions (as opposed to what marketing offers you click on) and what would win more share of your wallet for the airline.

I know for a fact FF programs can't answer these questions accurately enough to target individual offers to each customer.
Just like in any business.... if you don't know everything - you know nothing.
