Hi All, Mrs Bob is flying with SQ from BNE to SIN next week, arriving 8.50pm, then leaving a few hours later at 1:05 AM via SQ to Beijing. She has no status with *Alliance to get into a lounge there and was wondering about other options where she can relax and be comfortable. I had heard there are rooms you can rent by the hour (conjures up all sorts of ideas). Or are there lounges where she could pay to get in? Thanks in advance for any help.

Transit hotel is.... Ambassador Transit Hotel

But its not that cheap and is currently being renovated so be careful of noise.
Otherwise i would just leave the airport and take the MRT into town, grab some dinner at say Chijmes and check out some shopping them back to the airport and your time is filled.

i agree with evan, SIN has very little to offer apart from the ambassador! which is by far over priced anyway! Best bet is to go in and waste a few hrs shopping, eating etc!

4 hours... well if you explore all of terminal 1, 2 and 3 you can also waste that much time. There is worst case bars with sports etc on TV and also internet terminals i am sure she wont have a problem keeping from being bored.

With either of Evan's posts for good suggestions - MRT into town (reliable and do-able, last train back to airport around 11:25pm), or exploring the terminals. Paid lounges are also available, but may be better to sit in a bar or at one of the cafes/restaurants and have a meal. There's also free movies shown, plenty of expensive branded shops and the odd less expensive shop - all airside.

Landside (through immigration which takes all of 2 or 3 minutes) if she doesn't want to go into town on the MRT, at the airport there are some more shops including a typical Singaporean "food centre" in the basement of T3 for cheaper food, and lots of people occupying themselves with the national pasttime - eating!

Oh a note for boarding the Beijing flight - as with most SQ flights, the gate opens a while before the flight - but until the flight is boarding, it is basically just entering a holding pen, personally I'd rather stay in the rest of the terminal until the flight physically starts boarding (as indicated by the displays), but each to their own. Boarding usually starts quite early though, so if your wife wants to settle in to the plane for the next flight that's good and can do so early, or at the other end of the spectrum, if she want's to stay off the aircraft for as long as possible, boarding stops strictly 10mins before departure, so boarding 15mins before departure is entirely feasible without any need to panic (from about 15-20 mins out displays will indicate flight closing - but doesn't actually close until 10mins out).

I travel through Singapore a lot and find that unless you have 4+ hours between flights the airport hotel is not worth the bother. Last time there I had 7 hours gap so paid $70 singapore dollars for a room. They are basic but clean. Shower and a sleep were well worth the relatively minor expense to me. Otherwise, wander, eat at one of the upstairs restaurants and avoid the fast food places. Yuk..

Bob

There is a good list of options at the airport website:

Suggested Activities

A haircut or massage might be of interest after the flight from Brisbane, or the movie lounge which has never been full when I have been there.

I note the lack of lounge suggestions, for S$30 you will get 5 hours at the PLaza Premium Lounge which has napping stations available at extra charge:

::: PLAZA PREMIUM LOUNGE :::

They offer a meet and greet with flowers option, might be good brownie points for you!

Wow, I'm gratefully overwhelmed with all your suggestions. Just deciding which to follow should take up most of Mrs Bob's time on the flight over.

Many thanks

Hi Dav, welcome to AFF! :p

3 1/2 hours to kill - easy...

Perfume connection - 3 seperate shops having a different selection - personally I buy Daisy for Mrs! and Aramis for me, I usually have to shop for the spray on deodorant...

Foot massage - two options, both near the pool

swim - yeah.....

Out door bar (near burger king) for a cold drink in the singapore humidity - they make a killer sling!

Madame butterfly - very cool shop...

Try a free drink in each duty free booze shop - a crawl as such...

Movie theater - a good place for a snooze in peace and quiet (take your Bose H/P's with you) :)

Changi is an easy airport to find things to do in without needing a lounge...

Mr!

On the last couple of transits I've made through Changi I have used the pay per entry lounge. Name escapes me. I recall it was about A$20 to enter which provided access to the lounge, showers, drinks and basic food buffet.

I welcomed the quieter atmosphere.

Also the lounge had plenty of power points and wi-fi.

A few people were sleeping in their chairs.

This lounge also has a shower only option for about $8.

If it was T1 then that would be the Rainforest Lounge by SATs, T2 is the Plaza Premium Lounge already mentioned.

Another option is to spend S$12 on a taxi to the East Coast Park area where there are the famous seafood restaurants as well as other places to eat. Katong is also at nearby with many places including one restaurant (forgot the name) that seems to have a constant line-up outside!

Thanks to all for the suggestions. Mrs Bob told me she used one of the lounges in between shopping. I don't have any more detail than that because she is now in a "blackout" zone in China where the authorities have switch off all the mobile and internet connections.

Now I have to start another "question" thread for my daughter travelling to New York.

I have just visited the Rainforest Lounge. What an odd lounge! Only one window and there were these rather awful images of trees all over the walls and ceiling. Combined with a couple of platic plants at the entrance, I can't say they really pulled off the rainforest look!

I stayed for about 15mins before moving along to the Skyview lounge (near the 'D' gates in T1). A far more attractive lounge!
